I would highly recommend this school. The staff is extremely professional and you can tell that they really do love 'all' the children. Their 'zero' tolerance for poor behavior and the building up of strong character gives me peace each day when I drop them off at school. Both Mrs. Schug (K) and Mrs.

Also, I've volunteer beside many of the other teachers and aides working there and have found them all to be genuinely great people. The uniforms are a way cheaper way to go than street clothes and leaves no child feeling lesser than another. My children will have to take music lessons outside of school and the parking lot is a little crazy at pick-up time, but the pro's far outweigh the con's. :) Read less
After being frustrated with the school system I sought out an alternative to the Public schools. DVA is what I found and I think it has been wonderful. In the regular schools, neither one of my children had a real teacher - they went through 3! temps in one year. My son was falling behind and you

Yes there are fundraisers, but no more than a regular school, especially now with all of the budget cuts the other schools are doing. We had a big drive at the beginning of the year for things, but not the list that we got the two years we went to a regular public school. I am very happy with this school . Read less

My son started Kinder at this school ('08-'09) with Mrs. Larson. She has been a great teacher this whole year. She has been very patient and understanding with my son. He is very shy and does not command attention, but she saw that he was excelling with his class/homework. She focused on keeping

He is doing great and Mrs. Larson talks to me frequently about how he is doing, and I appreciate that open line of communication. I wish they had the funds for an afterschool program, and I'm not too fond of all the fundraisers. However, it's worth it for my son to excel in school and be in a safe, nurturing environment. Character classes have really reinforced good behavior and respecting others. Read less

I used to like this school and have noticed how negative the administration is. I love my child's 5th grade teacher. She's new, fresh, vibrant and my child has never enjoyed school as she has now with Mrs. Stoermer. However, we could lose good teachers like her if the administration doesn't show more

My Daughter is in 1st Grade with Mrs. Johnson. She is amazing. My daughter has a thirst for reading and math now, something that was seriously lacking from our previous school. DVA has a strict dress code and uniform which we all really enjoy. Last year half the morning was spent on 'What to wear?'

My child is in Kindergarten at DVA with Mrs. Woody. She is very accessible to me. She has given school phone numbers, home phone numbers and her email to ensure that parents may reach her at any opportunity. I had an issue that I brought to her attention and she handled it quickly and professionally.

The school has many opportunities that parents can volunteer their time. The other is that the kindergarten class is only half day. Overall, the school is very good in my estimation. Read less
