We absolutely love this school and are long time supporters of AASC (formerly CASY) I'm proud to say that my kids are prepared for the challenges of middle school both academically & socially thanks to AASC. Mr. B (the principal) once quoted an african proverb that said "it takes a village to raise a child" and this is the case with this school. This is a community made up of dedicated teachers (some of whom have been at this school for nearly 20 years), caring parents and a great principal who is 100% committed to the kids. AASC consistently maintains an "A" rating and an "excelling" label by the state despite limited state funding and resources. No fancy uniforms or state of the art building like a certain "prep" school in the area. Funny thing is, this prep school claims to have an advanced and accelerated program for their k-5th grade students but they recently received a "B" rating. Arts Academy at Scottsdale has been a wonderful school for all 3 of our children. We have been there since 2006 and have been very happy with the close knit, nurturing environment that challenges each student academically at their own level . When we selected Arts Academy (AASC) for our child, I had read every review for the school on this site. The majority were very positive; I reasoned that the few poor reviews must have been from random disgruntled parents so I disregarded them. I learned that I should have instead seen them as big red

The principal stood by without introducing himself during our campus tour (we didn't even realize he was the principal until we were already enrolled), and he proved to be impersonable and not at all interactive with us as parents. During our child's year of kindergarten, he was labeled "gifted but disruptive" and set apart from the rest of his class, seated alone and isolated from the other children. There was little to no effort to determine a better teaching/learning method for him and no mention or effort to develop an IEP (as schools which receive public funding are required to). Since moving him to a public school in the Scottsdale USD he is now flourishing, has an IEP in place, and absolutely loves school -- such a contrast from his miserable experience at AASC! If your child is anything but "perfect" and "textbook", beware of AASC! Read less

My children have been at AASC for two years and we LOVE it! Our family moved from New York 5 years ago and our biggest concern was the educational system in AZ. As a parent, I have met some wonderful families whose priority is their childs education and the school which they attend They come together for each other, for the children, and for the school as a whole. The children here are well behaved, respectful, and motivated. The teachers raise the bar, and the children rise to the occasion. What more could a parent want? Thank you AASC!!! Read less
