Last year we were never informed of anything, including my kid getting student o/the month! This year, her teacher is much more informative and organized. In some ways it depends on the teacher as to what your opinion is, but I do think this school is understaffed, which isn't their fault, and
... Read more I think they are handling that situation (budget cuts) wonderfully. In some ways, I think your experience with a school is what you make it to be. It isn't just the teacher's job to inform, they work really hard for our kids- they don't just have an 8-5 job. As parents we can always send a note or email or check the website calendar...they all have direct lines as well. The teachers need our support! They have a lot of parents to pacify! Most of the teachers there truly LOVE the kids, and you can really tell. I appreciate it! Read less

I have to agree about the principle of Simonton. We had a issue that we brought to her attention and she never called us back on it. It took my husband calling the district office to even get her to return our call. Besides that we have had no problems with the teaching staff. They are always willing

Unfortunately, leadership is lacking at this school and the teaching my child received was very uneven. Personal experience with some teaching staff was extremely unprofessional. I understand budget cuts happen during rough economic times but why force the kids into bigger classrooms when money could

For those parents who say that the Simonton staff does not give parents enough time for functions, I have no clue what you are talking about. You can look online at their website and find out all the different activities usually at least a month in advance. Not only that but they always send home multiple
... Read more reminders about EVERYTHING. I actually think that they send home too many reminders...... too much waste of paper if you ask me. Otherwise I love my son's teacher Mrs. Wright. She is a fantastic teacher and my son absolutely loves her. As for the principle, I wish I could say the same. We had a issue and we never received a call back or it has usually taken her days to get back to us. That really is the only issue I have had with this school. Read less

Ms. McCarthy my sons second grade teacher was awesome!! Getting info to parents in a timely manner and sending out newsletters just for her class was great!! We moved away and my son really misses it esp his teacher. Office staff is really involved with the children and it feels like a big family

He also gets music everyday now and was only once a week there. Simonton is a very technological school. With very updated computer white boards that the teacher and children can interact together on and the students have Orchard and another computer class each week. I think that some of the communication problems are teacher specific. We loved simon, they just need the offer more electives. Read less

I have two children in this school currently. The academics are wonderful, the only con is the communication between parent and teacher/school staff. Not enough notice is given (sometimes none at all) for school functions and events. I also wish they were sports and things like that to enroll my children

My son goes to Simonton and I feel that the communciation the shcool has with the parents is very poor. Its great to see a school with a wide variety of things for the kids to do during the week (i.e music, library, technology etc. . ). However, I was suprised by the lack of communication between the teacher and the parent. Being a new school for my children I was not used to the lack of communication

So, maybe there are re-adjustments I am not sure. I have heard from other parents the same issues and that something is missing with communication this year. I am hoping that it in time the school will live back up to its former reputation. Read less

My youngest son started kindergarten (all day) with Mrs. Ferguson this year.
