I have two gifted children at Pendergast. They were recently given a 3 day test to see if they qualify for the gifted program, which was recommended by their teacher. They are in two different classes and they are not bored the teachers find other alternatives for them to do.

Pendergast has strength both at the elementary and upper grade levels. I am most familiar with the upper grades. Teachers do a good job teaching students. Pendergast participates in an after school arts-academics program. I am especially impressed with their steel drum program. The level of parent

The academic programs were fairly standard. We did have problems with bullying. But some of the teachers were good to communicate, some were not.

This school is wonderful. The teachers and the administrators are very helpful. The academic programs with in the school are very good. The students are able to choose from a number of extracurricular activities.

I had 3 children attend Pendergast, and I was very unhappy with the school. It is run down, crowded, has a high turnover rate, and academically is very lacking. Because of the low test scores, the classes are taught at a low level and children who are advanced are left out. My children were bored
... Read more and not challenged. I had a gifted child who was the only student in the class for 2 years. Needless to say, we have moved school districts and my children are now thriving. This school really needs someone to take charge and take it in a different direction. Read less

Pendergast is a bit run down and crowded. the school board has done nothing to keep this school up. I pulled my children from this school after they received threats for getting too good of grades and making low achevers look bad. Pendergast School has been a performing year the past 2 years and is now out of school improvement. I sit on the School Effectiveness Team which is a parent, teacher, administrator team that works to get parents more involved in increasing student achievement. The new reading program at Pendergast
... Read more and the focus on reading is inviting parents to participate in their child's learning to read. I have been very pleased with the focus on getting children to read at grade level. There is a lot of assessment that takes place. Teachers let me know just where my child is in terms of reading. They send home many helpful activities for me to do with my child. The math program is also fairly new. It includes a lot of review as well as teaching new content. I also like the implementation of the Character Counts Program that started this year. Read less

Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level. Once a student completes an AP class and passes a final comprehensive examination conducted by the College Board, the student earns college credit for the course. AP classes are specific and not to be confused with other higher-level classes such as honors classes.
Before/After School

Vocation/Technical Curriculum
Vocational and/or technical courses offered within a comprehensive school, usually a senior high school.
Special Education Classes
A school or program within a school that provides services and training to students with moderate to severe mental and/or physical disabilities.
Adult Education Classes
Programs offering GED or equivalent courses for adults within regular schools, whether classes are held during evening or daytime schedules.
English as Second Language
English language classes for students whose first language is not English.
