... Read more much time or energy available for those who are just 'average', and for those who are 'special needs', again, unless they are interested in being a basketball team manager (1space). Not much emphasis on their experience. If your student is a 'super-star' this may be a school that has something to offer you. We, the long-time residents and parents refer to it as the 'haves and have nots' school. I don't believe a publicly funded school should be so exclusive. They have really done a fabulous job dealing with my special needs teen so far in the 1.5 yrs he's been @ DV. While nothing is perfect, this school stands head and shoulders above the charter school our son attended in 2nd grade and the private schools he attended in grades 1 and 3-4.

This is my seventh year that one of my kids is at DV. DV has an excellent math department and excels at a variety of fine arts and athletics. Principal Battle is really involved with the students and supportive of teachers and coaches.

My daughter and son graduated from this school. They now both go to top universities and were able to keep up well, with the demanding curriculum. It's a wonder how this school is a public school in Arizona. We usually have to pay extreme amounts of money for such a high quality education.

My daughter graduated from dv may 2006 and is now attending asu. She had a blast in her 4 years and academically excelled. ... Read more have had really puts effort into teaching. The extracurricular activities at Desert Vista are very well recognized. DV is number one in the state for their Speech Theatre and Debate team. Desert Vista is located in a very nice part of the town and is very very safe. You want your child to be able to go to school and not worry about violence and things like that, well this is that type of school. Overall this is an amazing school and I would recommend anyone to attend school at Desert Vista. Read less

... Read more 3,000 students, there is literally something for everyone. I have had one child that graduated with the class of 2003. His teachers and counselors were always available to us. My other child is a member of the class of 2007 and would not trade this high school for any other. Keep up the great work administration and staff. Read less

Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level. Once a student completes an AP class and passes a final comprehensive examination conducted by the College Board, the student earns college credit for the course. AP classes are specific and not to be confused with other higher-level classes such as honors classes.
Before/After School
"Extended day" programs where the school day is extended before and after school to accommodate working parents. These programs should not be confused with common after school clubs or athletic activities.

Vocation/Technical Curriculum
Vocational and/or technical courses offered within a comprehensive school, usually a senior high school.
Special Education Classes
A school or program within a school that provides services and training to students with moderate to severe mental and/or physical disabilities.
Adult Education Classes
Programs offering GED or equivalent courses for adults within regular schools, whether classes are held during evening or daytime schedules.
English as Second Language
English language classes for students whose first language is not English.
