I continue to be impressed by this school. We have been here since it opened and this year is the best yet. Most of the teachers are back and the office staff has really improved since the secretary left last year. I am also happy that it is a Performing Plus school for the second straight year.

Ny child attended this school for her last half of her 8th grade year and she didnt like it at all. The teachers couldnt control the class and there are many bullies. They were very disorganized and they dont really do fun activities in class. She would tell me that teachers would see students doing
... Read more or saying things they shouldnt and would act as if they didnt hear it. Students were just very rude and mean and teachers would do little about it. She didnt like going to school at all here and wouldnt want to go to a place like this. It was very hard to enroll her in this school from the start and staff didnt help. I wouldnt recommend this school for anyone. Read less

My child has attended this school for the second year, I am concerned about the relaxed disciliplary policies at the school. Many bullies, kids getting beat up in restrooms and many 1st year teachers. Many are not prepared to handle the complex problems that come with such a diverse environment. If

My son is in first grade. He's been at Desert Meadows since it opened August 2007. He liked(s) all his Teachers and is active in the Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA). Teachers and staff are doing their best to create an above average school, it just isn't there yet. There is a tiny group of active parent volunteers. More parents need to volunteer in classrooms for DM to approach our rival's Vista del Sur's performance level. As a new school DM went from 400 kids & 18 classroom teachers to 900 kids & 38 classroom teachers this year. 2/3 of last year's teachers stayed on. The regular 1-8th grade classes have 23-31 students nowadays. Read less

This will be my daughter's second year at DM. She is in 5th grade and the class size seems to be growing. I am concerned about the number of school bullies which has also increased in size, the principal's laid back attitude about responding to parent calls and emails, and I even went so far last year
... Read more to approach the school board but that did not do any thing in helping to resolve problems. I did join the parent group but they are concerned only with fundraising -- not improving child safety or security or better learning environments. This school really needs help as there are only a few really great teachers, Mr. Packard is one and Ms. Shamhart another. The office staff don't check appropriately where students live to make sure they are attending the proper schools. I would prefer to see more 'older' teachers hired. Read less

The classes at this school are severely overcrowded. My child's class has nearly 40 students and I am told there are no plans to hire additional teachers anytime in the near future. Last year the school had major discipline problems and Mr. Preis was very poor about returning phone calls when I had

I have two daughters who attend Dessert Meadows. Both of them really like the school. As another parent mentioned there are behavior problems and some teachers do not have control over the class. My 4th grader had 3-4 teachers through out the year and this is a huge concern for me this year. Overall

The first thing I ask everytime they comes home is how's school and my kids says they were enjoying their classes and their teachers everyday. They are always excited to go to school everyday. ... Read more other parent's comments regarding Mr Pries. When I had a concern with my daughter's status in school, he immediately gave attention to my concern. Now, my daughter is enjoying her class and have been challenged more and she is now attending in a gifted class. I am thanking the school for giving more challenges to the advanced kids. Thank you also to Mr. Hanson, Ms Roa and Ms. Barnes who are giving their extra efforts in preparing these kids for high school. Read less

Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level.
