I attended AJHS and graduated in the early seventies and it was an ecceptable shool then. My fourth child I withdrew and changed schools because the special education system was a complete joke. We are invovled parents and went to every scheduled meeting about our sons progress. Very few of his teachers
... Read more were able to make the meetings. The school psychologist had never met my child. His achievement scores decreased over the year of attendence. sShe was several years behind in reading and her scores decreased. Sinse leaving AJHS She has a 2.9 average up from her failing grades at AJHS and her reading has improved several grade. I hate to write this report as a lifetime resident, but when I stated my issues to the school I was dismissed. Read less

Read more an attitude towards the students that since they are from AJ they cannot accomplish much Weird, Ive lived here for 20 years and have never felt like we were 'less than' until this high school experience. It is as if the majority of adults expect to have trouble and poor grades, so the kids fulfill their expectations. If your child is even remotely motavated and gets involved with some extra activity these will be be the best four years of their life. Getting really involved with things is a great way for them to meet new people that are interested in the same things and are also motivated not only in that activity

I was not given the information needed to get my child into the programs she wanted. The calendar did not include these items to warn incoming new students of important schedules and tryouts. I was told by many that this school was getting better. My first impression was not good. Showed no interest

Apache Junction High School is getting better. It seems that finally there is an effort to change the image of this school. The athletic programs this year are proof of that effort. ... Read more power in wrestling; AJ is no longer the laughing stock of the state. Academically, test scores are touted as being better than other area high schools, although everyday student achievement is possibly lower than it should be. Administratively there is a new Superintendent, which hopefully will do away with the decades old 'good ole boys' system of doing things. Overall, things are improving in AJ. What needs to happen though is a dedicated effort to accomodate the larger population and reduce the discipline and behavior problems which have been rampant recently. Read less

Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level. Once a student completes an AP class and passes a final comprehensive examination conducted by the College Board, the student earns college credit for the course. Special Education Classes
A school or program within a school that provides services and training to students with moderate to severe mental and/or physical disabilities.
Adult Education Classes
Programs offering GED or equivalent courses for adults within regular schools, whether classes are held during evening or daytime schedules.
English as Second Language
English language classes for students whose first language is not English.
