This school has been fantastic for my children. My youngest has been going there since preschool and has been so happy and is learning so much in a wide range of subjects. Our daughter is in her fourth year at CDS. She started as a preschooler and we had planned to send her to another school after that, but since the teachers were so in tune with our daughter we decided to keep her there and we have been happy with our decision. The best part of the school is the fact

The students do not have to sit in chairs all day doing worksheets! They are always learning, and whenever possible nature is brought into the learning experience. The parents are encouraged to be very involved! What started as just a preschool experience has turned into the best school experience we could have imagined. Read less

Very interesting, I would agree that the sour grapes do not reflect most parent/student views. I have 6 children and I have never had a more enriching environment for them. We have attended Country Day School for the last 2 years and I can t say enough positive. When my husband was deployed to Iraq

Teacher turn over is minimal, which gives my children consistency and the teachers knowledge about their strengths and weaknesses. My children come home excited about learning, excited to share what they know and to further advance their knowledge. We will have to leave Alabama next year and I am very concerned where my children will go to school. I do not want them to lose the wonderful skills Country Day School has fostered. Read less

Our family has been very pleased with our experience at CDS. The unique environment and approach make learning something that my children are excited about, and they are encouraged to excel individually without being constrained in a situation that serves 'the least common denominator.' I have not found

While the school is 'non-traditional' in some regards, I believe the educational approach and curriculum are far superior to any alternative in the area, and I cannot imagine a student that would not be able to excel in this setting. CDS is a relatively small school with excellent ratios and a level of teacher involvement that appreciates and values the whole child, with every child. I heartily recommend CDS. Read less

After more than 25 years of teaching and multiple schools attended by all of my children I think that Country Day Schools only asset is the nice building. The curriculm is helter skelter, the rules on everything change constantly and unless you have magical powers do not even attempt to see any assignments

I do not recommend this school. The building is nice but that s about all they really have to offer. They don t even have a real gym. What they call a gym is an indoor soccer facility. If you don t play soccer, it s useless. I went to a public school before I came to this school. I am going back

There is no order and no consistency in this school when it comes to discipline. Our years of experience with this school was very negative. This is a Family run school, with no governing board to oversee operations and make sure issues that arise are handled swiftly and appropriately. From my son s 5th grade class, only about 1/3 will be returning. Many teachers have also left.
... Read more Though CDS espouses a child-centered philosophy, it utilizes stern disciplinary tactics; not for the weak at heart. We were also not happy with the education. Most subjects are taught without the use of textbooks. And Fitness revolves almost exclusively around soccer. When you read about the CDS philosophy, coupled with its beautiful new facility, you might think your child is being given a unique learning opportunity. Don t be fooled. If you look beyond its facade, you'll find very little. And,like the many others who have since moved on, you'll feel sadly disappointed. I recommend you find another school. Read less
