Stockbridge high school is one of the most manipulative and uncaring school i have ever attended. As a student who wants to change and do good for the world i want to be encouraged and uplifted by not just friends but by students and staff. The staff is very disrespectful as to how they treat their students socially black men at this school. As a school that’s mainly filled with kids of color you should not profile but support these students and lead them to the right way of life especially black men, I have advocated for men’s mental health and there has been nothing to be set in place or set in stone to promote that and protect them! There are students who want to be entrepreneurs and instead of encouraging and educating or helping these students they shut them down, there are rules that are of course set in place for safety that need to be followed but these are students who need to practice their art and craft without being beat dis by administrators, how am i supposed to feel confident when I’m not even supported. i would love to have a deeper conversation about this and the changes that need to be made to better help and support students and make them feel like they can make a change!

Public schools are given bad reputations because of schools like this one. Stockbridge Middle School lacks the basics needed to provide a safe and secure environment for children to learn. I said children because that is what they are, they are not young adults, they are not leaders, they are children. The administration is a joke. They have no real resources available to them to implement better measures for education and safety, and they do not use their voices to fight for these causes. They know exactly what they need and don't know how to obtain it. REMOVE THE CELLULAR DEVICES FROM THE SCHOOLS, ACTUAL CONSEQUENCES FOR DISRUPTION, AND ZERO TOLERANCE FOR BULLYING. If you decide to visit the school, you will not be greeted warmly or welcoming at all. You are a burden to them. Students do not go to school to learn anymore; this is a social gathering and free daycare. If you pick any classroom to audit, you will find 1. overcrowded classrooms with poor ratios of students to teachers, 2. 60% of the students are being disruptive in some matter, 3. of the 40% that remain half of those have given up on even paying attention, due to the disruption of the other kids, 4. the remaining 20% of students are either really smart and don't require much guidance, and or teachers' favorites. The majority of fights occur in the bathrooms and or cafeteria. They know this, so why not monitor these areas during higher exposure times like lunchtime? Fights that occur in classrooms are 100% preventable if the teacher is paying attention to the students instead of just spitting information to the oblivious. These are teachers that just show up to work- because they know the administration that supports them has no backbone to implement actual consequences.

I have a 10-year-old child who attends Cotton Indian, and he is autistic and has ADHD. Trust me when I say he can be a handful. He used to need constant redirection because of behavior challenges, but the teachers and staff at this school have worked so diligently with him. They took the time to understand his needs, support him, and help him feel settled and more confident. Most days, he comes home excited about what he’s learning, and that alone speaks volumes. He used to struggle with expressing his feelings, but now he feels safe enough to speak his mind. In my experience, the teachers here are respectful, patient, and incredibly supportive, especially Ms. S. Nelms and Mrs. Scott. They consistently motivate their students to learn and grow.I also have a 6-year-old who came to live with me, and this past February was his first time ever attending school. His teacher, Ms. Fleetwood, and her paraprofessional worked with him closely, and within just three months he was making A’s on his spelling tests. Both of my boys are thriving at this school, and I couldn’t be more grateful.Cotton Indian also does a wonderful job supporting students’ mental health and emotional well-being. As a parent, that means everything. I am truly grateful for the dedication and care the staff has shown my children. This school has made a huge, positive difference in their lives.
