Steve Brown is from Dayton, Ohio where his family has lived for more than 200 years, most of which was on an 158-acre family farm just south of the city. In 2002, to honor his family's legacy in the community, Steve and his extended family helped transfer the farm to the Warren Country Ohio Park District. Today, the whole community can now enjoy the beauty of this picturesque midwestern farm, with glorious nature trails, views, overlooks, wetlands, active ball fields and a learning center in the family's old homestead.
Steve attended Indiana University, majoring in journalism and public policy in the School of Public Policy and Environmental Affairs. Upon graduation in 1975 Steve followed in his mother's REALTOR® footsteps and joined a brand-new brokerage, Irongate Inc., REALTORS® , quickly becoming one of the "Top Ten" agents in Dayton.
Steve then took a break to pursue graduate and postgraduate studies in Tulsa, New York City and Boston. Returning to full time real estate sales in 1984, he was soon asked to become a partner in the firm. Now the President of Irongate Inc., a family of real estate services that includes mortgage, title and insurance divisions, as well as one of the largest, local independent, real estate brokerages in the Dayton market, Steve and his business partner oversee seven offices and 350 REALTORS® . As such Steve is a recognized figure in Dayton's REALTOR® and larger business community.
As President of both the Dayton Area Board of REALTORS® and the Ohio Association of REALTORS® , Steve set new standards of innovation and excellence, creating excitement and enthusiasm wherever he served. On the national level Steve is currently serving as the 2010 NAR Liaison to Big Brokerages, having completed his term as the 2009 Vice President and Liaison for Committees, for which he was recognized with the rare honor of the "Presidents Cup" award by 2009 NAR President Charles McMillan.
Like most successful REALTORS® , Steve has little spare time...nevertheless, he has taken an active role in community and charitable activities--from working as the Treasurer of Global Sharing, a local charity dedicated to helping the poor here and abroad--to more recently serving on the National Board of the Orthodox Church in America, the Board of Advisors of the Dayton Daily Newspapers and as a Board Officer for "Rhythm and Shoes," a Dayton-based performing arts company specializing in American dance.
When he is not running his business, working for the community, or travelling for NAR, Steve enjoys spending quiet time at home with his family on four wooded acres south of Dayton, being guarded by Busby, their devoted Lhasa Apso.
