The $8000 is not grant money, it is a tax credit. If you purchase a home between January 1, 2009 and December 1, 2009 and you are a first time home buyer, you can claim an $8000 credit on your tax return. You should ask your tax accountant for details. Good Luck. - Fri Feb 27 2009, 07:36
