Hi Tryska, I admire your spunk but I think it's actually going to be cheaper and more feasible for you to buy existing and renovate vs. building a new home in the current economic environment. Too many builders in bankruptcy or on the verge. You will need to verify financials in order to make sure the builder is solvent since your very life depends on their ability to complete the home. It's much less risky, less involved to renovate. Your life does not revolve around the builder's time frame, and you can live in your home while a contractor makes repairs and you make minor repairs. It will be hard to get financing on a modular home unless the area you wish to build has multiple modular homes sold and closed within the most recent 6 months that can be used as comparable sales. If you choose to renovate let me know and I can recommend some contractors and provide rates/costs on a 203K loan. Best of Luck. Jeff Hutchison jhutchison@panamlending.com - Tue Nov 10 2009, 10:39
