Newton is one of the larger cities in Massachusetts. There are 15 elementary schools, 4 middle schools, and 2 high schools. One of the great things about Newton is that you have the advantages of small neighborhood schools with strength and expertise of a large central district coordinating and creating consistency. Each and every school in Newton has unique qualities that make them great. Newton teachers are administrative staff are the best. Having a son in high school and being very involved with PTO's all along the way, I have visited all the schools at one time or another. I would be careful not to choose one particular school based on word of mouth. One person's flavor might be vanilla while your flavor is chocolate. Instead, I recommend choosing a neighborhood. Schoolmatters is a site from Standard and Poors for checking scores etc. Visiting the neighborhood will give you a sense of the culture and if it is a good fit for you and your family. - Tue Nov 24 2009, 06:20
