Reach out to James before you travel to Florida to start getting local information and you'll be better prepared when you arrive. Find out in advance what questions you should be asking, what areas to focus on, how to get the most for your money, and what you need to bring with you (pre-qual letters, proof of funds, digital camera, etc).
Some of the information about the area he can share with you to help you with your home search include maps, links and lifestyle information. For example, cut and paste this link about Cape Coral.
James completed the Team Aubuchon New Home Construction Training Program, and includes new home construction sales in his list of services offered. James can help you select your building site, interview different builders, discuss how the floor plans and layouts will "live" with your Florida lifestyle, and help guide you through the whole process.
James Sommers first moved to SW Florida with his family in 1989, when his father retired from the Washington D.C. Police Department. Over the next 25+ years, he has lived and traveled all over SW Florida, where he gained a wealth of knowledge about his chosen home. James moved back to south Cape Coral in 2000 from Venice, Fl to be closer to family.
The outdoors is one of the big reasons why James chose to live in Lee County. In fact his passion for the outdoors led him to volunteering with Lee County Parks and Recreation as a naturalist interpreter at Bunche Beach, near Sanibel Island. He's a tour guide explaining the history and natural ecosystems of this area, his current tour, entitled “Low Tide Loafing”, explains what can be found on the beach during the low tide. He is currently enrolled in the Florida Master Naturalist program, so he can expand his knowledge and provide the best information to new and current residents, encouraging them to enjoy their new home state.
The tour guide in James is why he'll show you the community along with your selected homes. You'll meet in the office to go over the homes and see where they are located in the city. Between homes you'll visit points of interest, like parks, beaches, marinas, waterfront dining areas, Matlacha Island, and seasonal occurrences (bald eagle nests, burrowing owls, manatees, flowering native orchids). The point is to help you pick a community first, and then find the perfect home.
