As John stated, this is typical in Texas. Builder is usually not present at closing, and keys should be picked up at the builders on-site office. Realtor or no Realtor this is the way that they normally do it. I usually run by the builder's office and pick them up for my client after funding, just so that they don't have to make the trip. If you didn't use a Realtor then you will have to stop by. Congratulations on your new home Emma! That is a wonderful way to start off the holidays and the new year!!
