During this period I was the owner / operator of 4 Restaurants at the New Jersey shore. I was responsible for location selection, store fit out , menu development , pricing and food costs.
I also had the charge of daily operations and cost controls and staff hiring within the company.
All but one of the stores were seasonal and during the off season I would re-hab multi family properties that would become the housing for my staff in summer season. The stafff would be brought over from the Eastern block of Europe . I would provide them with a job and housing and I could see that other fellow business men were having trouble getting quality staff, so I started bringing over extra students for other businesses and that became an additional source of income. By the time I moved into Real Estate development I had rehabbed 8 large buildings that housed close to 1000 students.
