Ron and Cheryl are truly dedicated to their successful real estate business, Popiel Properties, LLC. which they both enjoy running with teamwork and enthusiasm. Their work toolbox unfolds their invaluable educations, experience managing other successful businesses and strong work ethics.
Ron holds a Juris Doctorate Law degree, and has spent 25 years in the financial services industry as a stock broker, regional and branch manager. He held Series 6, 7, 8, 63 and Registered Options Principle licenses. During this time, Ron developed exceptional abilities to understand and communicate with people. He also proved his leadership capabilities by building three successful brokerage offices from scratch. These are just some of his tools that have assisted him in his many professional pursuits.
Cheryl, on the other hand, provides the attention to detail. After receiving her undergraduate degree in physical education and some graduate work in guidance and counseling, she has worked in a variety of detail oriented fields including financial services, legal offices, insurance and crown and bridge dental work . She also is a graduate of the Paralegal Institute in Atlanta, GA. Her organizational tools of rigor and positive relationships with clients are also in that toolbox.
Ron and Cheryl met in April of 1995 when Cheryl was hired as a sales associate in the Raymond James & Associates office in Greenville, SC where Ron was branch manager (yes, he hired her). They were married in September of 1996. Because of his love of the ocean and fishing, Ron had always wanted to live on Saint Simons Island, GA; so, they immediately moved to the island where they opened a Robert Thomas Securities, Inc. office (at that time an independent broker division of Raymond James which later became Raymond James Financial Services, Inc.). During the next five years they built a highly successful brokerage office serving the Golden Isles. One year Ron was recognized as the highest producing options broker in all of Raymond James Financial Services, Inc.
When he was not serving his brokerage clients, Ron pursued his love of gardening and fishing, attended Sea School and received his captain’s license. Cheryl returned to her love of horses and riding with some nighttime knitting.
In 2001, the brokerage business was sold and Ron and Cheryl became the owners/operators of TowBoatUS Brunswick, Saint Simons and Jekyll Island serving half of the Georgia coast. Although they hired several captains to assist in the towing, Ron was having the adventures of a lifetime. Cheryl provided dispatch services from their home as well as taking care of all of the office duties.
The winds of change blew again due in part to the requirement and confinement of being on call 24/7/365. In 2006 the TowBoatUS business was sold, and Ron began his career in real estate. Licensed as an agent in August of 2006, he worked with a local agency until November 2009 when he and a co-worker opened P and W Real Estate and Consulting, LLC. In February of 2010, Ron became the Qualifying Broker of the company.
Since Cheryl was already involved in the business as secretary, Ron convinced her to become licensed. Cheryl was licensed in May of 2010 and in July successfully completed the GRI 1. In July 2011 she completed GRI II and has plans for GRI III in 2012. She is active in the Golden Isles Association of Realtors as a member of the Technology Committee.
The partner left the company in July 2010, and in March 2011, the name of the company was changed to Popiel Properties, LLC.
Ron still occupies his free time organic gardening, and although she prefers the barn and horses, Cheryl does do some gardening chores. Of course, with 45 acres, both have plenty of hours on the tractors cutting grass. No matter the job at hand, Cheryl and Ron continue to work as a team, whether it is farming or business. Their professional and personal toolbox holds a myriad of necessary and exciting tools for their busy lives.
