In my understanding of the program (I've done quite a few here in the Phoenix area) I don't believe that you can bid on it at this point and receive the 50% discount. The listing agent should be able to answer that for your Realtor. In addition it has been a little vague about whether you have to actually be in the area that your school services or whether the district is permissible. This is what the HUD site says:
"You may participate in the Good Neighbor Next Door program as a Teacher if you are employed as a full-time teacher by a state-accredited public school or private school that provides direct services to students in grades pre-kindergarten through 12. In addition, the public or private school where you are employed as a teacher must serve students from the area where the home you are purchasing is located in the normal course of business."
Hopefully, your Realtor now understands the HUD process and more specifically the GNND program. It's a great opportunity but a different process than a normal transaction.
