I grew up in Palos Verdes Estates, CA, a suburb in the South Bay of Los Angeles. I met my future wife in 8th grade. I started college at the University of California at San Diego, in La Jolla, CA and then transferred to UC Berkeley where I graduated with a BA in Economics in 1982. I was married in 1982 and settled in the SF East Bay. I worked for American Express, Bank of America and Charles Schwab until moving to Dallas, TX in 1991.
I started in the residential mortgage lending business in 1993 with a small mortgage broker and then moved up to originate loans for the largest mortgage broker in North Texas, Prime Lending, a Plains Capital Company. My wife and I moved to Columbus, OH to pursue a career opportunity of hers.
Always wishing to move back to CA, we had the opportunity to do so in 2008. We moved back to Berkeley where we now live with our two Pugs in the Berkeley Hills with phenomenal views of the San Francisco Bay.
Having worked with my previous company for over 10 years as a top producing loan officer, I decided to affiliate with Mason McDuffie Mortgage, a medium sized, locally based mortgage banker that has roots in Berkeley that go back to 1887.
