The site, DataSF.org, looks like it has the potential to be an excellent resource and it's great to see San Francisco developing innovative tools to access government data.
The majority of people probably look for similar information when deciding where to live in San Francisco such as crime, public transportation, environment/culture, and restaurants etc.
Once this type of tool covers the basics for all, it could start to get more granular by sorting by elements that certain age groups would be most interested in. For instance, 30-50 year old people will probably more interested in school ratings for their children compared to 18-29 year old people who may care more about restaurant inspections in the neighborhood. Maybe a section of DataSF.org could offer a section on demographics so people know which neighborhoods will suit their specific needs the best.
When researching the benefits of each neighborhood there is always a ton of data one can find but, the real challenge is making it easy to access and understand. - Wed Sep 9, 2009
