No ringing phones, no blaring TVs or radios, no honking horns. There's no traffic out there on the beach. No boring meetings, no cranky bosses, no unrealistic deadlines. The air is warm and salty. As the sun breaks the horizon, an amber glow reveals surprises brought in by last night's high tide. You can find whole sanddollars here, especially during the winter months. A small crab scurries into a hole in the sand as you walk by, and a lone pelican dives for his breakfast in the distance. The island is waking up to a new day right before your eyes, and you have a front row seat. This is my morning routine. It can be yours too.

There is a shuttle from UTMB to Mall of the Mainland in Texas City that is operated by Island Transit. I believe it is weekday service only. Also, the city council recently approved service for a park-and-ride lot at the UTMB clinic at Victory Lakes with bus service to UTMB on the island. I do not know the anticipated start date for the Victory park and ride service. Below is the website for Island Transit for specific schedules. - Mon Jan 17, 2011
