2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy review for HBHS was not an accurate representation of HBHS. I attend STEM Academy of Hollywood, which is VERY different from HBHS. STEM is a separate Pilot school that operates in the same campus, but it seems that GreatSchools doesn't know that. HBHS seems unsafe and not as effective as STEM, and I wouldn't recommend it, especially because there is some gang activity. At STEM students participate in PBL Projects based on their pathways (Medical or Engineering), have opportunities to take AP, Honors and other advanced courses, as well as college classes. My experience at STEM so far has been great, the teachers and administration are very supportive and effective. The school keeps getting better both academically and in the community.Student Review6y ago - Joseph Le Conte Middle School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageTK went great for my child. The teacher was very inclusive to different learning styles and really made learning fun. Fast forward to first grade and the lack of communication between parent and teachers and parents and admin was horrible. Several incidents occurred to where I didn’t hear about it from the teacher, I had to hear it from my 6 year old. When I contacted admin I got no response until I reached out to board members. I a firm believer in hitting and bullying not being tolerated, especially if it’s happening often. My child’s class had a lot of underdeveloped boy who were very aggressive to their girl peers. The students were never disciplined and only go a slap on the wrist and the my child (a girl) was meant to feel as though she should just ignore or try to get along with those who were hurting her. I have since moved my child to another school. If you do choose this school for your child just make sure you are contacting your child’s teacher regularly and stay on top of what’s going on in the classroom, not just academically. Also, it’s not diverse in the way I would have liked (racially), but socially it is.Parent Review1y ago - Check out schools near 5737 Lexington Ave #108.

"Friendliest families that have lived on Lemon Grove and Hobart for over 15 years. Lemon Grove Park and Melrose Hills make for a nice late afternoon walk with our two toddlers. "

"It’s an evolving neighborhood that with gentrification its becoming safer but more expensive. So only the people that have a good source of income will be able to enjoy what will become of this area in the near future"

"It’s a very beautiful neighborhood perfect for walking your dog, however, if you your dog is older or has physical difficulties it would be hard on your dog because there are lots of steep inclined hills. "

"I see dog owners walk their dogs every day, anytime. You’ll see a lot of people taking a stroll anytime of any day. You’ll see a lot of joggers too, they’ll be running any time except for (high afternoons when the sun is at its highest). There are tons of park to visit with your family. The only downside here is that there are homeless everywhere. That and the real estate is pretty expensive."

"Dog friendly but always watch where you’re walking because some dog owners do not pick up after their pets "

"mixed bag of good and bad, I wouldn't suggest this neighborhood for families but for a young couple or roommates it is alot of fun."
- Kyle M.
- Resident

"Fast (potentially dangerous) neighborhood and surrounding traffic, loud noises at all hours, homeless presence is significant, crime is present but not overly terrible, and ironically street parking is surprisingly ok. Mostly, the Melrose, Highland and Santa Monica traffic and general noise are primary downsides."
- Patrick C.
- Resident
- 3y ago
"Would be a great neighborhood. It’s super walkable, great restaurants and bars, but constant sirens and police helicopters. Having said that it’s actually pretty safe just very loud and dirty. And there is a significant homeless issue."
- Whitlynnb
- Resident
- 3y ago
"There is significant crime and streets are not very safe for kids to play near. I live in Melrose Hill which is literally a charming residential utopia in the middle of madness so my take on Hollywood is a bit skewed"

"It’s pretty safe but many homeless people. I heard high school is not very good. Some areas like hollywood hills is very nice and safe"
