Retired MLB slugger Barry Bonds just hit it out of the (Beverly) Park!

The controversial home run king sold his massive Tuscan-inspired pad in the ultra-fancy Beverly Park area of Beverly Hills for $22 million. Property records show the deal closed on March 5, 2014 – 14 months after Bonds put the incredible estate up to bat for $25 million.

Inside sources say he had his eye on that initial $25 million list price for two reasons. First – and most importantly – he’d make an insane profit, considering he spent $8.7 million for the house in 2002. Secondly, Bonds gave the Mediterranean stunner a $25M price tag as an homage to his former jersey number – 25, which he considers to be his lucky number.

Lucky or not to him, it wasn’t the number buyers were willing to pay for the 1.85 acre, seven-bedroom, 13-bathroom manse. He price-chopped the home to $23.5M in December 2013 and finally signed a contract with a buyer at $22 million.

Bond’s just-sold estate was a faux Tuscan villa in the heart of Los Angeles’s most desirable area. Fully renovated, Bonds added 30-ft soaring ceilings in the grand entry foyer, gorgeous hand-painted Trompe L’oeil murals, and Venetian plaster throughout. The home boasts over 17,000 square feet of living space and unparalleled California living.

Outside, the grounds feature over 2,000 square feet of spacious loggias, a pool and cabana, and 2-story guest house.

Love him or hate him – there’s no in between – Barry Bonds is one of the biggest sports characters of the last two decades. Rocketing to superstardom in Pittsburgh and helping make a forlorn franchise a regular in the playoffs while winning his first league MVP award, Bonds made it clear he had all the tools to become one of the greats. He took his talents back to Northern California in 1993, where he was born and raised, to play for the San Francisco Giants and resurrected that franchise while winning 6 additional MVP awards (4 in a row at one point), leading the team to the World Series in 2002, and cementing his place in baseball history. Of course, this was before the BALCO scandal and perjury investigation which has cast a shadow over Bonds’ mountain of accomplishments to the chagrin of some and the delight of others.

      Price

      $4.375,000

Two-time World Series Champion Barry Zito has just tossed his West Hollywood home on the market for $4,375,000!

Zito was just cut loose from the San Francisco Giants when his $126 million dollar contract expired after seven up-and-down years. Without a mound to stand on, Zito has turned his focus back to his bulging real estate portfolio, which includes this for-sale home, a massive property in the Sunset Plaza area of Los Angeles, and a San Francisco-area home that’s currently for rent for $28,500 a month.

A shrewd real estate investor, Zito knows a great house when he sees one. Zito’s West Hollywood gem sits on one of the most private and quiet Bird Streets above Sunset Blvd and is newly remodeled. And those views!  Zito’s place has the kind of views usually available only to the most elevated lots far above Sunset Blvd, but unlike those high-in-the-sky properties, this house is only about 3-5 mins away from the hustle and bustle of Hollywood.

Listing agent Sharon Hills of Kobeissi Properties, gave us some inside intel on Zito’s property, saying, “he never lived here, but purchased it because of its location in the prestigious Bird Streets of the Hollywood Hills, and the incredible views.”

The views range all the way from the LA skyline to the ocean and can be seen perfectly though the many walls of glass. Soaring ceilings and an open concept floor plan create a dramatic and spacious environment and most rooms open directly to outdoor terraces, perfect for entertaining.

According to the listing, which was first spotted by the Los Angeles Times, all bedrooms have their own bathroom, and the master suite sprawls across the entire top floor. A rarity in the Hollywood Hills, this home has an abundance of street parking and a designated turn around for easy access.

Retired San Francisco Giants slugger Barry Bonds has just slashed the price of his Beverly Hills mansion by $1.5 million.

When Bonds listed the incredible estate for $25 million dollars 11 months ago, he had his eye on that $25 million list price for two reasons. First – and most importantly – he’d make an insane profit, considering he spent $8.7 million for the house in 2002. Now listed for a lower, but equally impressive $23.5 million, Bond’s estate seeks a buyer who wants to live in a faux Tuscan villa in the heart of Los Angeles. $11,495,000

San Francisco Giants World Series Champion Barry Zito is looking for another big win – this time in the real estate game. The San Francisco Giants pitcher who famously signed a $126 million-dollar contract is looking for a buyer for his stunning Kentfield, CA Mediterranean mansion. Just across the San Francisco bay, Zito’s home is asking $11,450,000. Perhaps the allure of owning the home of a two-time World Series champion will be enough to clinch a buyer for this amazing estate.

When the home first hit the market in June of 2012, Zito’s publicist Kathy Jacobson told the Huffington Post that the motive for the move was a shorter commute. “Barry loves Marin and the house; he was married there…but with the drive over the bridge all the way across town to the ballpark, it was just too much, especially with a new marriage.”

No telling where the star pitcher and his new wife Amber Seyer will head next, but we do know that they’re leaving behind a champion-worthy estate. Called “Villa Della Pace,” Zito’s for-sale home is sited on over 2 acres of hillside directly overlooking Phoenix Lake. The gorgeous, rare home features a new, spectacular guest house and both the main home and the guest house enjoy the breathtaking panoramic views of acres of coastal hills and park lands. The property is surrounded by stone terraces, lawns and gardens as well as an outdoor fireplace, barbeque, fountain, spa, and spectacular swimming pool. Thanks to teak Nano doors, which allow the home’s glass walls to open, indoor-outdoor flow is maximized.

Situated on a private lot with two iron gates, this estate features 4 bedrooms, 5.5 bathrooms, an enormous combination kitchen/family room. The large master suite, which opens to the back yard and spa, is on the main level and features an imported limestone fireplace. The master bath is accented with beautiful granite countertops and an extra-large custom stone shower, double sinks, and a gracious walk-in closet. The main level also comes with an office – the perfect place for Zito to consider all the ways to spend that nine-figure paycheck.

Marilyn Rich of Pacific Union real estate holds the listing.

              Price

              $2,990,000

As part of one of the biggest trades in baseball history, the Los Angeles Dodgers closed a huge nine-player swap with the Boston Red Sox earlier this fall, acquiring Boston’s star left fielder Carl Crawford. Crawford, a former four-time All-Star for the Tampa Bay Rays, hit a solid .282 with Boston during his early 2012 season before being hit with news of the trade and shipped off to LA  mid-season.

For the past few months the left-hander has been on the disabled list recovering from Tommy John elbow surgery, a very common baseball injury. He has also been busy becoming acquainted with a completely new team, new city and new home due to another common occurrence in the professional baseball world: a sudden cross-country trade. Fast-forward to the MLB’s playoff-month of October and the Los Angeles Dodgers are out of the running, now switching gears to prep for a new 2013 season. Crawford too is now ready to officially start over in California as it is confirmed he has listed his Wellesley, Massachusetts mansion for an asking price of $2.99 million.

This 7,426 square-foot estate has New England-style charm on the exterior and a contemporary, luxury design on the interior. Custom built just a year ago in 2011, the home sits on a privately gated cul-de-sac in historic Wellesley, Massachusetts, an expensive suburb of Boston that features high-priced properties with an average listing price of $1.6 million. The ultra-private living quarters offer five bedrooms, six baths and a three car garage. The estate’s interior is professionally designed with warm, nude color schemes gracing the walls and flooring, while splashes of bright greens, reds and browns on the furnishings accentuate the space and add some spicy personality to each room. But beautiful interior décor will not go to waste – according to the listing, buyers may purchase completely furnished!

Other ultra-luxe amenities include: a home theater, game room, an in-house barber shop, three fireplaces, an enormous master suite, and last but definitely not least, an extra large exercise room with batting cage. Like other athlete and celeb properties, this estate does not disappoint!

With baseball season swinging into full gear last week, we decided to check out the hottest spring training home in scorching Scottsdale, Arizona that former San Francisco Giant Pat Burrell is currently trying to offload.

Located just 22 miles from the San Francisco Giants’ spring training camp, this 6,931 square foot, 4 bedroom, 4.5 bathroom bachelor pad hit the market in early February, possibly confirming rumors of “Pat the Bat’s” recent retirement. Listed at $3.695 million, this estate is one of the swankiest MLB pads available in the area. The contemporary home features glass walls and an open design, allowing for stunning views of Estancia Golf Course. The first floor boasts a state-of-the art kitchen, grand living and dining room with fireplace, full bar, and private living quarters. Price

                      $1,795,000

While it’s not on the baseball diamond, SF Giants pitcher Matt Cain just added a loss to his stats. Cain’s real estate reality means the young baller will likely take a loss on his recently relisted and completely remodeled Noe Valley home. Curbed SF is reporting that just this week, he placed the home back on the market for $1,795,000. That’s $255,000 less than the $2,050,000 he paid for it when he bought the place in 2008.

It was first listed in September 2011 for $1,950,000. The price dropped a month later and was pulled from the market in December. It just reappeared on the open market with the same reduced price from December.

What can you actually buy for that reduced price from the champion pitcher? The Mid-Century home has an open floor plan and floor-to-ceiling windows that optimize stunning San Francisco Bay Views. The corner home is detached on three sizes, allowing for wonderful natural light – a rarity in the fog-drenched city by the Bay. The top floor features an open living room, dining room, solarium and exquisite kitchen with refrigerator, 6-burner Thermador range, Bosch dishwasher, microwave, sound-system plus desk area with iPod dock and computer station. The bedrooms include two large master suites, a den that could could be converted to a 5th bedroom and a powder room complete the floor. The lower level has two additional bedrooms and a bath. One of the bedrooms is currently used as family room opening to large view deck.

Cain is a free agent next year and hasn’t yet received a long-term extension from the Giants, which may be prompting the sale. Or maybe he needs a change of scenery. Either way, the reduced list price indicates that he’s highly motivated to sell. Play ball!
