5,448-square-foot European Villa with six-bedrooms, five-bathrooms and a pool; Former home of 1940s singer/movie star Dorothy Lamour

    Price

    $5,000,000

Mitzi Shore, the famed owner of The Comedy Store on LA’s Sunset Strip (and Pauly Shore’s mom), has just sold her longtime home in Los Angeles.

Listed by the downsizing octogenarian for $5.8 million in August 2013, the deal just closed for an even $5 million on February 7, 2014.

Mitzi Shore is known by many in the funny business as the maker and breaker of comedy careers. From the 1970s to the 1990s, Mitzi nurtured the budding starts of many well-known comedians and late night talk show hosts, including David Letterman, Jay Leno, Jim Carrey, Chris Rock, Chelsea Handler, Richard Pryor, and Robin Williams.

Reports suggest that Shore sold the home because she’s in declining health and looking to cut back on her holdings. Mitzi has already handed off the day-to-day management of her famous comedy club to her family — which has resulted in a pretty scandalous and un-funny lawsuit between her two sons.

When Mitzi listed the home last summer, it was the first time that the legendary Old Hollywood estate has been on the market since she bought it 40 years ago. Prior to Shore’s long-term residency in the estate, the villa in the Hollywood Hills was once home to 1940′s-era singer/movie star Dorothy Lamour.

Built in 1936, this ivy-covered European Villa includes five bedrooms, six bathrooms, and sits on one of the largest flat lots in the area — a rare and desirable asset for homes located in the Hollywood Hills. While loaded with character and charm on the outside, the home will need a lot of TLC on the inside. According to the listing description, this home needs “to be fully restored/rebuilt.”

Kurt Rappaport of the Westside Estate Agency represented both the buyer and the seller on this deal.

If you ever wanted two of Hollywood’s most talented actors as your landlords – here’s your chance. The married Academy Award-nominated duo of William H. Macy and Felicity Huffman are looking for someone to lease their Los Angeles home for $20,000 a month.

Purchased by Macy and Huffman for $3,800,000 in December 2012, the home has 5 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms, 4,566 square feet, a pool and amazing Los Angeles views. Another bonus? You’d could drop your rent check over the fence, because this for-lease place is right next door to the home William and Felicity have lived in since 1998.

Up a very private road, perched on a grassy flat pad with tree-top views, this single level mid-century-style home is the epitome of California living – casual and enticing. The focal point of every room is the sprawling backyard, sparkling swimming pool and panoramic views of Los Angeles. With 4 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms and an attached guest suite, there is plenty of room for entertaining friends.

Macy and Huffman took great care to maintain the original characteristics of the home while undergoing a massive renovation that includes a shiny new kitchen, new bathrooms, a screening room, a separate office suite, a new sauna and spa, and contemporary bamboo and cork floors.

The lease is being represented by Ninkey Dalton of The Agency.

        Price

        $1,405,000

Actor Ryan Reynolds has just sold his home high above the Sunset Strip for $1,405,000 – a loss of $310,000.

The home was purchased by the actor in October 2007 for $1,715,000. After holding onto the home for nearly 7 years, Reynolds listed the place for sale, so he could close that chapter of his life and be fully invested in his new life in Bedford, NY with new wife Blake Lively.

Not unlike a messy breakup, it took a considerable amount of time for Ryan to be fully untangled from this Los Angeles home. He placed it on the open market in the fall of 2009 with an asking price of $1,900,000. The home wasn’t in as high demand as Ryan Reynolds himself, so he took it off the market six months later.

It came back onto the market in July 2011 with an asking price of $1,690,000. With no movement, Reynolds was forced to chop another $91,000 off, to bring the asking price to $1,599,000. No buyer stepped up, so Reynolds took the home off the market until July 2013, when it popped back onto the market with the same $1,599,000 asking price he was hoping to get in 2011. 2.5 years and another $100,000 price chop later, market conditions worked in Reynold’s favor and he was able to find a buyer willing to pay $1,405,000, and the deal closed on January 4, 2014.

The home’s listing describes it as a “sophisticated Hollywood Hills private home…at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac.” The home boasts a private entrance though walled and gated courtyard. Amenities include a newer roof, hardwood floors, solar heating, tank-less water heater and French doors throughout. The 1,789 square feet includes 2 bedrooms, 2.5 remodeled bathrooms, and a cook’s kitchen. The home is ideal for indoor/outdoor living with a gorgeous patio for entertaining and a landscaped yard with walkways overlooking canyon views.

Annie Challis of Keller Williams represented Reynolds as his listing agent.

Always dreamed of having your own in-house dive bar? Well, you’re in luck, because comedian Adam Carolla is now leasing out his funky and unconventional Spanish-style home in Hollywood for $13,500 a month!

Located at 3052 Lake Hollywood Drive, Carolla purchased the 4 bedroom, 6 bathroom, 5,757 square foot place on April 18, 2003 for $1,630,000.

One of the first homes in the Lake Hollywood area, Carolla’s for-lease abode was built in 1928 and later restored with traditional Spanish-style elements, including arched doorways, leaded glass windows, hand-carved wood beams, chandeliers, tile floors and large courtyards for entertaining.

While it may look like any other Spanish-style home in the neighborhood from the outside, inside, Carolla’s house is anything but ordinary. Downstairs, the house features a large, custom-built entertainment room, complete with a full dive bar and pool table, looking into the pool with glass-view port-holes.

Not stopping there, the house’s custom-built garage is enormous, with room for 10 cars and a hoist. There is also private parking on the grounds for an additional 10-12 cars.

Carolla and his wife Lynette own this high-priced property, but live full-time in nearby La Canada Flintridge, in a home they bought in the summer of 2013 for $2,965,000. Like anyone in LA who’s had any sort of financial success, the Carolla’s also have a Malibu home. They paid $3.6 million for that beach pad in 2007.

Although they divorced in 2007 after seven years of marriage, Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe shared more than just their two beautiful children – they also still owned a pricey Los Angeles investment property together!

Now, that is no more. They just sold their shared duplex for $1,440,000 on January 17, 2014. Purchased by Reese and Ryan in October 2005 for $1,173,500, the divorced duo held onto the two-unit, remodeled property through the real estate market downturn, and then listed it for $1,395,000 in December 2013. 18 days later, the home went under contract for $1,440,000 – a full $45,000 OVER asking. All in all, Reese and Ryan pocketed a nice $266,500 profit on the sale.

That’s a nice turn of events for both Reese and Ryan, who each lost boatloads of cash on recent home sales. Reese just sold the Ojai, CA ranch where she married her new husband, Jim Toth at a major loss! Purchased by Reese for $5.8 million in 2008, she originally asked $10 million for the ranch, reduced the price multiple times, and finally accepted an offer of $4,983,500 – a loss of $816,500! Think that’s a big loss? Ryan lost an eye-popping $1,175,000 when he sold his Zen-inspired Sunset Strip mansion in March 2013.

Mary Lu Tuthill of Coldwell Banker Brentwood was Reese and Ryan’s listing agent for this deal, and Lisa Mansfield of Sotheby’s International Realty represented the buyer.

Superhero actor Chris Evans has just listed his rather ‘Fantastic’ home in the Hollywood Hills for $1,450,000.

Located at 2971 Briar Knoll Drive, the hunky ‘Avengers’ actor paid $1,260,000 in March 2007 for the 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom, 2,386 square foot pad.

Located on a quiet cul-de-sac, Evan’s for-sale home has an open and spacious living room and dining room with hardwood floors throughout, vaulted beamed ceilings and tree top views. A gourmet kitchen has state-of-the-art appliances and the master suite has french doors leading to a private deck with seating area, private spa, and luscious landscaping.

Those looking to spot Evans at the open house will be disappointed, since the actor hasn’t called this place home for almost a year. In April 2013, he decamped to a 3 bedroom, 4.5 bathroom, 4,599 square foot Mid-Century ranch-style pad nearby that he purchased for $3,520,000.

Evans will reappear on the silver screen in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, set to be released in April 2014. In 2015, he’ll appear in the highly-anticipated sequel to the The Avengers, titled Avengers: Age of Ultron, where Evans will reprise his role as Captain America.

Branden Williams of Hilton & Hyland holds the listing.

Michael Strahan is no stranger when it comes to high-end real estate. In October we reported that he relisted his TriBeCa loft for $2.25 million. And, in July we told you that he sold his Bel Air home for a $3M profit in an off-market deal. Now, rumor has it (thanks to our friend at Real Estalker) that the retired football star and co-host of Live! with Kelly and Michael, quietly purchased  a gorgeous $16 million mansion in Brentwood.

The 15,600 sq ft. home was built in 2013 and boasts 3 levels with 9 bedrooms and 14 baths and state of the art technology. The mansion has soaring ceilings and is equipped with the typical mansion-type amenities like a 59-foot long swimming pool and inset spa, home theater, gym, game room, wine cellar with full bar (cheers!) and an elevator so you can easily get to each level. Each master bath has its own walk-in closet and while you are lounging in the master wing you can enjoy a romantic fireplace.

When you step outside you are greeted with a lovely covered pool-side cabana with a grilling area to make any pool party epic.

We’ll have to wait and see if the rumor is shakes out, but it looks like 2014 is going to be another good year for Mr. Strahan.

Glee crooner Chris Colfer has something to sing about – he just sold his home in the Laurel Canyon area of Los Angeles for $945,000.

Purchased on March 3, 2011 for $860,000, property records show that the 3 bedroom, 3.5 bathroom, 2,462 square foot home just sold on December 5, 2013. He originally listed it in September 2013 with the overly optimistic asking price of $1,150,000.

Colfer’s just-sold home is a newly-remodeled Contemporary style home located in the prestigious Hollywood Hills. The three-level home has gorgeous views from every room – a must in the Hills. The ultra chic kitchen comes complete with stainless steel appliances, a cooks island, wine fridge and oversize walk-in pantry. Perfect for entertaining, the home has an awesome lounge area adjacent to the kitchen that’s complete with fireplace, balconies and beautiful canyon views.

Upstairs, you’ll find the 3 bedrooms, including a luxurious Master which overlooks the canyon and features a huge walk-in closet and spa-like bath with amazing downtown views.

Listing photos show the home with bare bones furnishings and staged furniture, and that’s because Colfer is long gone. He may have just sold this month, but in August 2013, he splashed out $1.6 million for another home on a cul-de-sac nearby in the Hollywood Hills, where he’s been nesting ever since.

Mega-producer Michael Bay is selling his blockbuster Los Angeles home for $13.5 million.

The 4 bedroom, 6 bathroom home has nearly 8,000 square feet of living space, and is primely located in the celebrity enclave between Bel Air and the Holmby Hills in Los Angeles.

Bay is selling this estate because he recently completed construction on a brand new home that has been in the works since he purchased it in October 2009 for $10.9 million. To much outrage, he tore down an architecturally significant home to build an even bigger and more contemporary estate.

The new home is designed by Oppenheim Architecture + Design, and according to the architects’ description of the project, Bay’s new mansion is nestled into a hillside, spans 30,000 square feet and features a large theater, movie prop museum, parking, spa and two master bedroom modules hovering above the main living quarters.

                  Quite the project!

While Bay’s moving into his new home, he’s now selling his former home, which he purchased in 1999 for $5.16 million.

The striking contemporary estate is off a long gated drive in prime Bel Air on a promontory w/ unobstructed views of the entire Los Angeles basin. Designed by the late architect Jack Warner, this extremely private home features clean, crisp lines, grand scale museum-like spaces, soaring ceilings, ideal indoor/outdoor flow and dramatic views from every room. A spacious central living room has a huge fireplace, a large formal dining room, and separate library/den that opens to a lush, private garden, pool & spa.

Other amenities include a state-of-the-art theatre (naturally), wine cellar, and gorgeous wood & stone floors.

David Offer of Berkshire Hathaway Home Services is the listing agent.

Ashmore’s previous home, which he purchased in 2009 for $593,000, sold this August for $653,500, and after three months of looking in a hot and heavy LA market, Ashmore purchased a home in Studio City for $995,000.

The 3 bed, 3 bath Studio City charmer boasts a stone-lined salt water pool, spa, hardwood floors, and sits behind an idyllic white picket fence. The kitchen impresses with stainless steel appliances and a connected eating area, along with convenient outdoor access.
