    Celebrity Real Estate Losers

The housing market is tricky. It’s up, it’s down, it’s up again…and then it’s back down. We’re seeing a nice recovery in the overall market right now, but that doesn’t mean everyone is making money on their homes – even celebrities.

Let’s take a look at 9 big-name celebrities that lost some serious cash money when they sold their luxury real estate in the last year.

     Katy Perry

This “California Gurl”  bought this Spanish-style home in Hollywood in 2011 for $6.5 million. She intended to use the spread as her marital home with then-husband. Russell Brand. Before the moving trucks could even get in the front gate, the duo had split. Perry then had to face a financial heartbreak when she had to sell the home for $5.65. After fees and closing costs, she lost more than a million dollars on the home.

Reese originally had the place listed it for $10 million, and price chopped it multiple times, until it sold for almost a million less than the $5.8 million she paid for it.

After failing to sell it at the reduced price, Jordan put the home up for auction – where it AGAIN failed to sell. It’s now back on the market and still looking for a buyer.

      Finally!

After many months on the market, multiple price chops, and a few failed deals, it looks like Katy Perry has finally snagged a buyer for the Hollywood mansion she bought during her marriage to ex-husband Russell Brand.

Purchased by the songstress on June 24, 2011 for $6,500,000, Perry intended to make the 3-acre estate compound near the famed Chateau Marmont her and then-husband Russell Brand‘s marital love nest. Amid rumors of an impending divorce and before the moving vans could even get in the front gates, the duo split for good – and the home remained vacant.

Shortly thereafter, Perry made her unlucky love nest a “pocket listing” and was trying to sell it without officially listing the home for sale. Perhaps she was asking too much money or people just didn’t want the bad juju associated with the home, but Perry couldn’t find her buyer. She officially listed it April 2013 and has been desperate to part with it ever since.

Despite having a red-hot new love life with crooner John Mayer, Perry was still without a buyer for her marital home. She discounted the home twice, in hopes that a lower price will entice someone to make an offer.

Now, the home is listed as “pending” and the deal is expected to close soon.

The home, dubbed “Park Hill,” was built in 1921 and is comprised of a significant Mediterranean residence with two-story grand entry that continues into two-story living room overlooking all of Los Angeles and the city’s dramatic skyline. The property has a separate two-story guest house that was formerly a caretaker’s apartment on the lower level and a Carriage House on the second level for auto storage.

In 2004, another guest house was built and could be used as a private residence, as it comes complete with a bedroom, kitchen and bathroom. The lushly landscaped backyard has a lagoon-style pool with waterfall and small bridges. Adding to the allure of this property, the home neighbors Frank Lloyd Wright’s famed Storer House.

Perry has since moved on to a two-home compound that she purchased for $11 million and Russell Brand recently spent $2.2 million on a hilltop bachelor pad.

Ernie Carswell of Teles Properties is the listing agent.

British bad boy actor/comedian Russell Brand has just splashed out $2.224 million on a hilltop bachelor pad.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Brand’s new pad hilltop home was once owned by the great Laurence Olivier. The residence is 4,800 square foot, multi-story mansion high in the Hollywood Hills. Built in 1926 and designed by architect Selden Price, the home is nestled into a steep hillside and has incredible panoramic city views.

Fully restored by the previous owner, the gothic-feeling estate has voluminous spaces and dramatic flying buttress arched ceilings and doorways. The entry level is comprised of a spacious living room, an outdoor dining terrace over-looking the canyon and city below, a formal dining room and kitchen with high-quality finishes. Down one flight of stairs, Brand’s lower level includes a master suite, 2 guest bedrooms and an office, all of which open to the incredible views. Walk down yet another level and you’ll find a state-of-the-art screening room, studio apartment with separate entrance and a sprawling outdoor deck and yard over-looking the view – perfect for entertaining!

Brand’s new purchase is his first big real estate move after splitting from ex-wife Katy Perry. While Brand is skating into a new place in the Hills, Perry is having a heck of a time selling their former love nest, which was just price-chopped a second time, bringing the asking price to more than half a million less than what she paid for it in 2011. But don’t cry for Katy – she’s since upgraded to a $11.2 million-dollar Hollywood compound.

          Poor Katy Perry!

She just can’t seem to be able to leave the past behind and sell the Hollywood Hills home she intended to share with then-husband Russell Brand before their divorce. After a massive price cut this summer, she has just price-chopped the home for a second time!

Katy Perry is ready to close the door on that part of her life, even if it means losing a ton of money in the process. In a revealing article in the June 2013 issue of Vogue, Perry revealed that Brand told her he wanted a divorce via text message. With that kind of ending, no wonder Perry wants out of the home that she and Brand had intended to make their happy home. After slashing the price on their former home by $430,000 in June, Perry has axed another $507,000 from the asking price, bringing the new price to $5,988,000 – $512,000 less than what she paid for it!

Perry was reportedly secretly hoping to find a buyer for her unlucky love nest without having to officially list the home for sale. Perhaps she was asking too much money or people just didn’t want the bad juju associated with the home, but Perry couldn’t find her buyer with a pocket listing. She officially listed it April 2013 and has been desperate to part with it ever since. Still without a buyer, Perry is discounting the home yet again, in hopes that an even lower price will entice someone to make an offer.

The home, dubbed “Park Hill,” was built in 1921 and is comprised of a significant Mediterranean residence with two-story grand entry that continues into two-story living room overlooking all of Los Angeles and the city’s dramatic skyline.

Perry has since moved on a romance with John Mayer and on the real estate front, she’s also moved on to a two-home compound that she purchased for $11 million.

Celebrity Homes Built Throughout The Decades

              Celebrity Homes From Different Decades

Would you rather have a newly-built home or a piece of local history? Well, it turns out that maybe celebrities really are just like us! Instead of living in brand spanking new mansions, they actually live in homes from every decade, ranging all the way back to 1908! Make no mistake though – even though celebrity homes may be older, they are always fancy, massive and majorly high-priced!

Let’s see who lives in homes from the various decades!

              Madonna – The 1900′s

Built in 1908, the Material Girl’s 2-story New York duplex has 6 bedrooms, 8 bathrooms and pine floors – a very common amenity in homes built during that time.

              Katy Perry – The 1920′s

Located in the heart of Los Angeles, Katy Perry’s home was built in 1921 and features 7 bedrooms, 9 bathrooms, 8,835 square feet, a pool. The estate is a glamourous Spanish-style home, which was a very common style built back in that era.

              Jason Bateman – The 1930′s

In-demand actor Jason Bateman bought the iconic estate of the late, great Ernest Borgnine, which was built in 1938. Located in Beverly Hills, the 5 bedrooms, 7 bathroom, 6,148 square foot home has a pool, views and a slate roof, which was popular with homes built in the 30′s.

              Lauren Conrad – The 1950′s

Budding real estate mogul and former “The Hills” star, Lauren Conrad, went back to the 50′s when she bought a house in Brentwood for $3,754,000. Built in 1959, the home has the period appropriate feature – a double-wide driveway, which is perfect for her and her entourage’s many cars. Inside, the home has 6 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, 4,303 square feet and a glittery pool.

              David Hasselhoff – The 1980′s

It seems almost too fitting that David Hasselhoff has a home built in 1988. The actor has a bit of a throwback vibe, due to his popularity in previous decades when he played lifeguard Mitch Buchannon on Baywatch. In his real life, Hasselhoff owned an 80′s home in Encino that has 5 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms, 8,947 square feet, a pool, 2 guesthouses and a very 80′s feature – large bathroom mirrors.

              Kevin James – The 2000′s

‘King of Queens’ star Kevin James sure was living like a king in his Encino mansion, which was built brand new in 2003. The palatial pad has 5 bedrooms, 9 bathrooms, 11,291 square feet, a resort-style pool, and two very common amenities for homes built between 2000-2009: an aerobics room and a snail shower.

              Daisy Fuentes – 2010-present

Daisy’s got herself a brand new home! Built brand new in 2012, Daisy Fuentes recently scooped up a beachfront Malibu home that has 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 3,836 square feet and a coveted feature in brand new builds: natural light exposure!

Back in October 2010, Katy Perry and Russell Brand were Hollywood’s newest eccentric “it” couple – newly married, crazy in love, and the most unstoppable entertaining duo. However, this too-good-to-be-true teenage dream was short lived. Sadly, and to (some of) our surprise, just 14 short months after saying “I Do” the couple parted ways when Brand filed for divorce on December 30, 2011 citing “irreconcilable differences.”

Since then, there has been an overload of rumors swarming the couple’s every move. The latest and greatest drama is surrounding which one of the two will be being forced to leave their $6.5 million dollar Hollywood mansion.

Is it Katy or is it Russell? Various reports have been claiming it could be either of the two. Although we’re not positive as to WHO is packing up and leaving, we do know a little bit about WHERE they’re headed: a leased or rented LA condo for $16,000 a month.

According to the real estate experts at Celebrity Address Aerials, this new soon-to-be bachelor or bachelorette pad is a 5 bedroom, 4.5 bath perched on the Hollywood Hills just a mere 3 miles from the couple’s previously shared $6.5 million dollar mansion. Located at the end of a private cul-de-sac, the 4,017 square foot home features hardwood and terrazzo flooring throughout, a very sleek and modern kitchen and beautifully lit living spaces with recessed lighting in every room. It’s very modern architecture includes glass walls and splashes of stone décor. The exterior includes a pool, spa, and a beautiful wooden terrace allowing for amazing views of the city.

UPDATE: TMZ and the Daily Mail are reporting that Russell has moved out of the couple’s home and into the new bachelor pad.
