"There are few sidewalks in Hilo, or I would permit my children to walk or bike on them. Not only is it dangerous from cars passing the street is often crūmbling."

"Our neighbors are helpful and fun. We keep an eye out for each other (strangers, loose dogs, ect). We get together for potlucks at least once per year."

"Few proper sidewalks, so often dogs and their owners are in the street. Can be dangerous with cars. "

"Dogs are leashed only stray dogs are not leashed. Most dog are well behaved. There is always one dog in your neighbor that your whole family is scared of. "

"Besides the Merrie Monarch Hula Festival every April and the Hoolaulea concert every year at the end of September, Hilo has a lot of food places to choose from and the community is very local and family oriented."

"I live here for 4 years and our neighbors are great!! The traffic is loud and cars speed thru here! It rains about 350 days out of the year and we are infested with slugs and fire ants! Cannot grow your own veggies because of the slug problem "

"Nice neighbors and great association! Activities and parks for kids to play! Good schools and a very safe place to raise kids! Lots to do around the area as far as swimming, fishing, paddle boarding! Best place to live! Traffic is not as bad as Oahu so very easy to commute! "

"Public transit is not the best transportation, trick or treating is only popular in particular areas of Hilo, very convenient place to live on the Big Island. Lots of food and shopping nearby as opposed to other districts on the Big Island. "
