Why Winter May Be the Best Time to Buy Your Home

Why Winter May Be the Best Time to Buy Your Home

-By Zohar "Zack" Zamir

Sounds a little unusual doesn't it? Many people consider the summer months to be the best time to buy a home. Many people consider it to be the best time because that's when the most activity is. Families want to move and get settled before school starts, more people want to go looking when the weather is nicer. While there is definitely a high level of activity during the summer months, the WINTER may actually be a  prime to go home shopping.

There are fewer buyers during the winter. As a result, buyers looking during this time are taken more seriously. They're not searching because everyone else is, caught up in the hype and maybe stopping by an open house just to take a gander. If they're making an effort to come out and see houses in the cold weather, there is a higher probability that it's because they're serious about finding one.

In addition, because there are less buyers during the winter, buyers run less of a chance of entering a bidding war. Not only that, you may be able to negotiate more with the seller because they know you're serious and they may have less options.

The truth of the matter is that there may be no "best time" to sell your home. The inventory is consantly changing and it's really based upon what the buyer is looking for. Despite this, the winter months are usually considered to slow down or be "dead" when in actuality, there's a lot that can happen if you're looking in the right places. Thus, winter time may be the time to search instead of hibernate.
