Help for traffic issues on Johns Island

Help for traffic issues on Johns Island

Charleston County called for help from the Urban Land Institute. In a meeting last week, they suggested an alternative to the original ideas that had been presented to residents in the past by suggesting adding a third lane on Maybank Highway from the Stono River to River Rd. This was well received as an option to keep Maybank Highway two lanes from River Rd to Main Rd. The third lane would help the flow of traffic coming onto the island during the afternoon rush hour.  With all of the development on Johns Island in the past few years, rush hour traffic has become a real annoyance to residents. A great deal of this traffic turns onto River Rd once it reaches the intersection so the real problem appears to be getting the cars to this point.
