It’s County Fair time!

The Barnstable County Fair runs from July 16-23, at the fairgrounds on Route 151 in East Falmouth. $10 age 13+; $8 seniors and those with current military ID; $2 ages 6-12; age 5 and under free with paying adult. Happy Anniversary, Seashore…

The Cape Cod Mall hosts a celebration of the Cape Cod National Seashore’s 50th anniversary, with interactive displays and activities at the Cape Cod Mall in Hyannis, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 16. Co-sponsored by the U.S. Park Service and the Friends of Cape Cod National Seashore.

Taste of Cotuit

This annual benefit event supports the programs of the Historical Society of Santuit and Cotuit. Held July 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Samuel B. Dottridge Homestead, 1148 Main St., Cotuit, the event features fine wines and foods from local establishments, as well as a silent auction and music by Flipside. $50. Call 508-428-0724.

Clean your car for a cause

ACME Glass will hold a car wash from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 16 at the shop location on 123 Barnstable Road, Hyannis. All proceeds benefit Alzheimer’s Services of Cape Cod & the Islands. $10 washes your car for a worthy cause.

Village Crafters fair

The Village Crafters of Cape Cod is again holding Craft Fairs to benefit local libraries. Next up: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 16 at Osterville Library, 43 Wianno Avenue, and part of Osterville Village Days.

Shellfish Classes

"The Barnstable Association of Recreational Shellfishing (BARS) is offering FREE "Learn to Shellfish" classes on July 23 at noon, at Bridge Street Landing in Osterville. A shellfishing license (obtained from the Marine & Environmental Affairs department on Phinney's Lane, Centerville) is required if you wish to keep your quahogs. Rakes and/or baskets are available to borrow. Fairy Garden Festival

Hyannis Country Garden holds its first Fairy Garden Festival on July 23 and 24. The winning creators of spectacular Fairy Houses will receive a $25 gift certificate to Country Garden, presented in age categories (under 12, 12-20, 20 and above). Fairy gardens are miniature landscapes created in the landscape or in containers, and most fairy houses are created out of natural materials such as sticks, bark, stones and moss. Barnstable Senior Center

Upcoming events at the BSC include:

• July 19: Marlene Spengler of Caregiver Homes discusses services for caregivers provided by Parkinson’s Support Network of Cape Cod, 1 p.m. Free.

• July 19: AARP Driver Safety Program – a 4-hour class to keep you safe on the road. No testing. 12:30-4:30 p.m. $14.

• July 20-Aug. 24: 6-session series on Aspects of Death & Dying, led by Barbara Nordstrom, Hospice & Palliative Care. Wednesdays at 10 a.m. Free.

July 21: Alternative Medical Approaches for Managing Pain, led by Jay Rosenfeld, M.D., of Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, 1:30 p.m. Free.

The Center holds ongoing classes on computer use and software programs. Call for info on dates.

African dance, drum and song

Dance & drum on the Hyannis village green – Mondays July 18 and 25, 7-8:30 p.m. $12.

Ongoing classes in African Dance are held every Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Barnstable Community Horace Mann Charter Public School gym, 165 Bearse’s Way (next to Hyannis Youth & Community Center). $12 each class. Call 508-274-8626.

Thrift shops

• The Cape Cancer Thrift Shop, 1085 Route 6A, West Barnstable, carries furniture and accessories for the home to suit every pocketbook. Open year-round 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Sales benefit Dana Farber Cancer Research. 508-375-0433.

Waiting for homes

The New England Society for Abandoned Animals is looking for loving homes for a passel of cats and kittens. All are healthy and up to date on shots and vaccinations.
