Curb Appeal Really Does Go ALL the Way to the Curb!

OK... This is a lousy picture. I took it with the camera in my phone. I was in the car passing by and there was no shoulder for me to pull into. So I stopped right there. Wow, some people can be so rude!

But you get the idea. This mailbox is perched on plumbing pipe which you can see (vaguely) goes down a little, into an elbow, straight back behind the pole, then another elbow and into the ground. Just so it doesn't tip, it's balanced on a stack of cinder blocks with one on the side so they don't tip over.

OMG! This house is not for sale, but I have seen plenty that are with mailboxes ALMOST as bad!

As a Real Estate Professional AND a Certified Home Staging Professional, this makes me cringe. We all talk about "Curb Appeal" and try to make our clients - or potential clients - use this term to mean nice flower beds, pruned shrubs, clean windows and a presentable home. But sometimes this term needs to be literal. "Curb Appeal" does really go to the curb!

This is so truly awful I don't think I need to say any more about it!

I have the odd habit of latching on to one feature that's generally common on a home and just looking a hundreds as I drive around on business. It can go on for months before moving on to another random "thing". For a long time I looked at "things coming out of roofs" such as vent pipes, fans, dishes and so on. It's amazing sometimes how much "stuff" pokes out of the roof.

But now... it's mailboxes. I smile when I see attractive ones with their own little flower bed. Such was the case just a few doors down from this....this.... thing.
