More about Cabbagetown Atlanta

The Fulton Cotton Mill (now converted to lofts called The Stacks) is in the heart of Cabbagetown and in the early 1900s it is said that the owner built all of the homes for the employees at the Mill.  Usually the entire family worked at the mill, while cabbage cooked continuously at home so dinner would be ready with the family of workers returned home after a long day. It is said that the aroma of the boiling cabbage is how Cabbagetown got its name.

Cabbagetown Atlanta Homes

Cabbagetown is filled with row houses, Victorian Farmhouse style homes, and early bungalows.  Most were built in the early 1900s, so even though many of the homes are quite small (under 1,500 sq ft), they usually have 10 or 13 foot high ceilings, which make the rooms feel much larger... and that historic charm that Atlanta intown home buyers love.

In the photo below (from left to right), you will see several Cabbagetown Atlanta home styles.  There are row homes along Carroll Street, detached shotgun Victorian era homes and also bungalows that were built in 1910 to 1925.

Cabbagetown Festivals & Events

It's biggest claim to fame is the Chomp and Stomp, an annual Chili Cook-off that winds through the streets of Cabbagetown.  Thousands of Atlantans come to this event every year and there are usually at least 75 booths with different types of chili.

As you will see in the photo to the right, it is our annual tradition to cook chili for one of our favorite Atlanta festivals!

TIP:  If you do come to the Chomp & Stomp event, get there early!  The chili is usually gone in the first 2 or 3 hours.
