Summer Fun Concerts, Shelby Farms, June 30 â€“ Aug. 2nd, 6:30 p.m., free
Think of the concerts at Shelby Farms as sort of a miniature Levitt Shell to the east. The park is hosting four free outdoor shows. There will be food for sale from local food trucks, and blankets are welcome. The shows are free, but parking is $5, so bring some cash.
Â Â Downtown Alive, Court Square, semi-daily all summer long, 11:45 â€“ 1 p.m., free
If you find yourself downtown during lunch, take a walk through Court Square for some impromptu good times. A few times a week, the Downtown Memphis commission sponsors giant mural competitions, drop-in free ballet classes, karaoke, live music and other shennanigans from 11:45 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Â Live at the Garden, Memphis Botanic Gardens, monthly June 16 â€“ Oct. 5th, 6:30 p.m., $40 per show
The Botanic Garden's annual outdoor Live at the Garden concert series is only partially about the music. It's also about hanging out on blankets with elaborate picnics and seeing and being seen. This year's line-up includes Chicago, Seal, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Duran DuranÂ Gates open at 6:30, the music starts at 8:30.
Elvis 35th Anniversary Celebration, August 10-18
Elvis fans won't want to miss Elvis Week 2012 August 10-18. This year marks the 35th anniversary of the annual week-long event which includes a charity run, film festival, Elvis tribute artists and a nonstop party atmosphere honoring the King of Rock and Roll.
Â Memphis Zoo and Aquarium
If you have children, the Memphis Zoo and Aquarium is an amazing place to visit. They change out their special exhibitions regularly, so there's always something new to see and learn.Â
Golf and Game Family Park
Another family favorite is the Golf and Game Family Park. They have Go Karts, Putt Putt Golf, Bumper Cars, Arcade areas and more. It's a perfect place for your teens to let loose miniature golf,
Memphis Farmersâ€™ Market
Stop by the Memphis Farmersâ€™ Market, a non-profit market located at the Central Station downtown and pick up some fresh locally grown fruits, vegetables, homemade cheeses, breads and farm-fresh meats â€“ all perfect for a weekend picnic or impromptu BBQ at one of our many parks.
Rooftop Parties, Peabody Hotel, Thursday nights through August, 6 p.m. â€“ 11 p.m., $10
If youâ€™re looking for a little nightlife, check out the famous rooftop parties at Peabody Hotel. Every Thursday night in the summer, hundreds of downtowners flock to the Peabody Hotel's massive rooftop for live music, food and drinks. The parties start at 6 p.m., and ladies get in free before 7 p.m. The $10 cover includes your first drink.
Dining in Memphis
One of the first places people go when they visit Memphis is Beale Street, and rightfully so with its bustling bars, restaurants and clubs. There are tons of choices to choose from, so come hungry!
