One of the realities of New York real estate is that most of the time, you can’t expect to get a lot of space. This is especially the case in the East Village, where most of the buildings are under six stories and are former tenement houses. Such is most likely the case with Whitney’s home, which she shares with her husband and dog. Located in the East Village, the apartment is only 300 square feet – but boy, have Whitney and her hubby made the most of their small space!Â
Apartment Therapy chatted with Whitney about her home, and about how she manages to run her interior design business, store everything and keep it clean. Not so surprisingly, the secret is organization. The storage unit in the center of the apartment is their organizational hub – it encompasses all of their clothing, their small business needs, and of course, a desk.Â
Says Whitney, “Our mini-couch doubles as a fold out bed and because I am a designer, choosing the perfect size desk allows me enough room to contain my materials and inspiration. The internet was our main source of inspiration for small space solutions — it was about finding things that worked for other people and then seeing how we could translate that into our space.â€
Do you have a super small space? How do you make it work?
