Going Green on the Eastside
Have you noticed the increase in 'Green' building on the Eastside? It is a relatively new trending for builders in the area however, I am pleased to see that more are starting to understand the benefits of building a greener home. From a building cost perspective it can be the same to slightly higher depending on materials and systems used, however, from a sales perspective it increases the value on average per sq ft from 10% to 35% depending on the area.
It is becoming apparent that there is an increase in buyers actively looking for more energy efficient features and the use of materials that produce better indoor air quality. The most common examples of these would be in-floor radiant heat, energy efficient appliances, low VOC paints and natural flooring materials. Some not as well known features would include rainwater collection for household and garden use, solar water heaters and paperstone counter tops to name a few.
As buyers become more educated on greener building practices they will not only desire them in their next home, they will demand them.
