Schools in Austin -- How they Rate

Greater Austin School Ratings

Greater Austin has some outstanding schools. Some of the top rated schools in the nation are here in the Austin area, but they may not all be located where you think. The truth is, great schools are scattered throughout the Greater Austin area.

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) rates schools every year in their respective Independent School Districts (ISD). The top two ratings for a school are an "Exemplary" rating and a "Recognized" rating. Here is a quick look at some of the top ISD's for 2009-2010 and the percentages of schools that fall into these top two categories. Keep in mind, larger school districts have larger and more diverse populations--so results tend to vary more in the more populated areas.

District                 % Exemplary and Recognized (combined)

Eanes ISD                       100% out of 9 schools
Wimberly ISD                  100% out of 4 schools
Liberty Hill                       100% out of 5 schools
Leander ISD                    82% out of 34 schools
Round Rock ISD              71% out of 49 schools (2nd largest)
Lake Travis ISD                67% out of 9 schools
Georgetown ISD               61% out of 18 schools
Pflugerville ISD                 46% out of 28 schools
Austin ISD                       45% out of 120 schools (largest ISD)

Remember, these ratings change from year to year, and the numbers fluctuate based on student body changes and test scores. If you would like to know about other Austin area school districts or specific schools in a community where you would like to purchase a home, please give me a call.
