The City of Somerville has created a walkability map of the city for the convenience of those who live in Somerville, and for those who may be visiting or considering to live in Somerville..
The walk map shows approximate walking times from location to location within different points of interest in Somerville. This is pretty cool when you cross reference the walkability estimates from this walk map to the "Walk Score" of a specific location. For example, I went to WalkScore.com and typed in "Davis Square, Somerville" to see what result would come up. The WalkScore gave a location of 1 College Avenue in Davis Square and a walk score of 97 out of 100. Whoa! Davis Square, you are so walkable.
Let's try something different and use 56 Clyde Street as the location to represent the Maxwell Green new green construction. The walk score for Maxwell Green is a cool "83". Let's cross reference this great walk score with the City of Somerville walk map. By using the epicenter of Davis Square as the target "walk" from Maxwell Green, it looks to be about 12-15 minute walk to the Davis Square "T" stop. That's great if you want to use the "Red Line" for transportation. However, if you are to walk from the Maxwell Green site to the future Green Line Extension stop at Lowell Street Bridge (whenever that gets completed), then these residents will have a "fall out of bed" walk of a just a few minutes..
Combining the Walk Score and the City of Somerville's walk map, you will get a reasonably good idea of the time from and to different points in the City. Great set of tools!.
