    Friends,

I forgot to mention this in the last "Island Happenings" newsletter. I knew I was forgetting something big when I hit the "send" button.  But, I now believe it actually is better to send it out separately.  It will have greater impact.

I learned about this organization last year when they visited Kure Beach.  I could not wait to help.  I just wanted to be involved in some way.  I think you might want to be involved too!   Little Pink Houses of Hope provides beach retreats to families who are living with breast cancer.  It gives these families an opportunity to spend time together, relax and enjoy each other.  Time to forget about the disease, treatment, emotional trauma and focus on enjoying their loved ones.

The Little Pink Houses Families are coming to Carolina & Kure Beach in April.  The are looking for accommodations for the families.  All sizes can work from 2 to 6 bedroom, houses or condos on Pleasure Island. If you or someone you know has a property available for the week of April 23-29 and would like to donate a week's stay to Little Pink Houses of Hope, please contact me at 910-200-0958 or 910-458-2108! Please feel free to share this email with your friends and neighbors as they might know some that can help.  Even if you don't have a house or condo to donate you can still get involved!  Check out the website and contact me or Jeanine or Melissa at Little Pink Houses of Hope.  Let's show these folks what "southern hospitality" is!

You can learn more about Little Pink Houses of Hope here!

    Enjoy this beautiful day!

  • December Newsletter

Posted Under: General Area in Carolina Beach, Home Buying in Carolina Beach, Home Selling in Carolina Beach  |  December 20, 2011 2:52 PM  |  1,608 views  |  No comments

    Dear Friend:

We are now in full swing with the holidays! Below are some real estate articles and tips I thought you may find interesting.

I wish you happiness this holiday season and throughout the coming year.

Home Sales Increase Across the Country

The National Association of Realtors recently released their 2011 3rd Quarter Housing Report. The report showed that combined sales of single family homes, condos, and co-ops increased in EVERY state as compared to the 3rd quarter of last year.

    Here are the state-by-state numbers:

Teacher's Fund Raffle ends December 31st

The Teacher's Fund benefits local kindergarten-through-5th-grade school teachers so they can buy the supplies and books they so desperately need. In order to raise money for the Teacher's Fund, we are selling $10 raffle tickets. There will be a drawing for an iPad2 for every 100 tickets sold. In other words, if we sell 500 tickets, we will give away FIVE iPad2's!  The proceeds of the raffle will go to the Teacher’s Fund ad the drawing will be held on January 3, 2012.

The challenges of today’s economy makes this worthy fund even more important than ever.  You can help support the Teacher's Fund by purchasing raffle tickets online with this link:

Real Estate as a Long-Term Investment

Despite the real estate bubble and subsequent market correction, owning a home remains a great long-term investment.

Take a look at the return on investment for real estate versus the three major U.S. stock market indices from January 1, 2000 through November 1, 2011.

Tips When Selling Your Home During the Winter

    • Remember the outdoors:  The front of the home is one of the first impressions a buyer gets. Be sure to keep the yard maintained and the walkways clear.
    • Provide Convenient Parking:  Buyers prefer not to walk too far in cold weather. If it’s wet or snowy leave a decorative rug so your prospective buyer can wipe their feet.
    • Turn on the Lights:  Tackle winter’s short and cloudy days by having the lights on. When you have a showing, turn on every single light in the house, even in closets and the garage. Leave blinds and curtains open to let light shine in. Keeping lights on towards the front of the house helps people to notice your home better when driving by. Encourage daytime showings whenever possible.
    • Keep Odors Under Control:  It’s easy for homes to get stuffy when it’s too cold to open windows. The less air circulates, the harder it is to eliminate pet or cooking odors.  Be sure to let the thermostat run during the day to keep air moving, which leads to the next tip…
    • Don’t Cook the Buyers:  The temperature should be set around 65 degrees to avoid making your buyers overheat.  This is a comfortable temperature for buyers as they walk through your home. In most cases, buyers will leave their coats on during the walk through so it shouldn’t be too hot.
    • Incorporate a Festive Look:  Appropriate decorations can give a home a cheerful look. However, it is important not to go overboard! Just a few tasteful touches can go a long way. Once the holiday is over it is best to remove the decorations promptly.

    Something to think about...

95% of Americans say that it is a Positive experience owning a home.

81% of Americans still say that owning a home is a good long term investment.

Now is the best time in history to buy!  And, Wilmington and the surrounding beaches are a wonderful place to live!

Real Estate has been and still is the best long term investment.  A $100,000 invested Janunary 2000 would be worth $142,800 today.  If you put that same amount in the stock market, it would be worth $99K in the Dow, $81K in the S&P and $61K in the NASDAQ.

Why wait? Now, is a great time to buy a home!
