With the homes selling well and the prices good, most people had
wonderful equity in their first homes, so they used that along with the
ease in obtaining loans to buy another home. They planned to put the
first home up for sale, but of course you have to have another house to
go to if your house sells, right? Well, the timing was not good for many
who were in that position because the bottom dropped out of the market
and suddenly the home prices dropped. They have gone so low in fact that
many people don’t have any equity left.
This has left some in the position of owning the upgraded house and making mortgage payments as well as making the payments still on the original house that has now lost value. The possibility of selling the house is also at a very low probability factor since houses are not moving much at this point. Where there are buyers, the loans are difficult to get and the sales fall through on a regular basis.
So in this tough economy there are actually people that are paying not one mortgage payment and struggling with it, but have been forced into paying two mortgage payments every month. That makes for a very good possibility that some may lose one house or the other.That doesn’t need to happen.
