Tataki sushi - hidden gem in Pacific Heights

Disclaimer:

I am NOT allowed to participate on the Trulia Voices contest to win a Dash Express GPS ... I just hope that someone will buy me one as a Xmas present :)

So, this post is really, truly intended to help fellow San Francisco sushi lovers to discover awesome new places! ... aka no Dash contest for me, just good kharma - still not a bad deal!

A few weeks ago, i walked by this lovely small sushi place, called Tataki sushi located at 2815 California Street (just at the corner of California and Divisadero really). I was with my husband and we were both very hungry, so we went in without a second thought and since then, we went back four times!

Tataki sushi is all about sustainable food. All tables have a small card offering more information about the sustainable food movement; which is pretty cool. The menu has a wide variety of choices: nigiri, sashimi, rolls. Everything is great, but the rolls are out of this word! You can check out the full menu here, but i highly recommend:

  • Distinguisher roll: pretty spicy, it even comes in a plate that is on fire - literally. So if spicy is not your thing...don't go for it
  • 49er: it is masago (small eggs of capelin) and avocado topped with lemon
  • Pacific sunrise: it is three different type of fishes and no rice. very light, yet really tasty
  • Golden state: spicy scallop topped with albacore tuna. once of the most interesting combinations i have ever tried
  • On top of the fantastic food, the prices are reasonable, the ambiance is lovely, the stuff is super friendly and the sake is really good! Give it a try and let me know what you think!
