I am equally sad. I live one town over from his house and have ridden past it numerous times in my bike club group. Last year, I finally went for my 1st (and as of now only) time to his local Westport Playhouse to see a play. I was several rows back and to the side of center stage. Very surprisingly, Paul attended the play on the same night and sat a row BEHIND my row....not front row center, or anywhere near it, as even I would have expected. He had eaten dinner at the organic restaurant he had built right next to the theater and came in right before the play started. As I and my guest were leaving, we walked past him at the end of his row as several theater people were talking with him and his group. He had accidentally dropped his play program on the floor next to his seat, so as I walked by I picked it up and handed it back to him. He thanked me so kindly and genuinely, as if he was truly grateful for such a seemingly insignificant gesture. I will remember it for as long as I live as my only "contact" with one of the greatest actors of our time...and an amazing person of such character and genuine generosity. My heart goes out to Joanne, his wife, and the rest of his family for such a great loss.
