  • Orange County’s New Lyon Air Museum

Posted Under: Entertainment & Nightlife in Costa Mesa  |  December 16, 2009 9:54 PM  |  233 views  |  No comments

Costa Mesa, nicknamed City of the Arts, has gained another attraction in our neighbor city of Santa Ana – The Lyon Air Museum.

The museum is next to the John Wayne Airport and displays aircraft and autos from the 1930s and 1940s.  Major General William Lyon opened the museum as a way to teach people in his home area about the efforts of American servicemen during World War II.  Military veterans will serve as docents and a lot of them even served during WWII.

The 30,000 sq. ft. Orange County museum broke ground in 2007 and opened during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009.  Lyon Air Museum  serves to educate the public about the “Greatest Generation of Aviation.”  There are plenty of amazing features like a 1939 Mercedes-Benz Model G4 Offener Touring Wagon used by Adolph Hitler during World War II, as well as an authentic truck from Helms Bakery, which was used locally in the 1940s.

One of the greatest missions of the museum is to provide services to local school districts so that our youth will have a chance to learn first-hand about WWII.  Costa Mesa students and the surrounding communities are very fortunate to have so many fantastic resources at their disposal.  Make sure to visit the Lyon Air Museum and take advantage of yet another wonderful  treat near Costa Mesa.

  • Snow Land Canceled Due to Inclement Weather But Spirit Not Broken

Posted Under: Entertainment & Nightlife in Costa Mesa  |  December 12, 2009 6:08 PM  |  218 views  |  No comments

Yes it was disappointing to wake up to rain on Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009, the day we had set for Snow Land…  But a little rain can’t wipe away our holiday spirit!  First off, we are still holding the toy and food collection and asking people to drop off items at our office at 2845 Mesa Verde Dr. East in Costa Mesa. The toys that are collected will be donated to Spark of Love and the Costa Mesa Firefighters Association Operation Santa Letter Program.

Food donations of non-perishable canned food are also welcome. These items will be given to the organization Share Our Selves, a Costa Mesa based organization that provides free assistance to those in need.

And for the kids (and adults too!) who were looking forward to some playtime, we are offering people a chance to come by Torelli Realty to decorate cookies from 12/14-12/23 during business hours.

Holiday cheer is still alive and well in Costa Mesa and we look forward to making next year’s Snow Land better than ever!

  • Doing Good at Snow Land on Saturday, December 12

Posted Under: Entertainment & Nightlife in Costa Mesa  |  December 1, 2009 8:54 PM  |  256 views  |  No comments

Torelli Realty is gearing up for Snow Land on Saturday, December 12 over at Balearic Park.  Here's a couple of special things we'd like to highlight.

Toy/Food Donations This holiday season Torelli Realty is giving the community a chance to donate toys for children in need.

The Firefighters Association, fire prevention volunteer crew, Share Our Selves volunteers, and the Costa Mesa Fire Department will be present to collect the toys and food.

Estancia High Cheerleading Squad SupportEstancia High School’s Cheer Team supports their school, fights for pride, and bolsters spirit in the community.  Their dedication drives them to train for 3 hours a day, five days a week in order to prepare for upcoming competitions. Unfortunately the program’s high costs are limiting participation.  They need monetary support to make it a financially viable option for all students.

Torelli Realty has been sending a monthly check to help underwrite the squad but more sponsorship is necessary.  The Estancia Booster Club is hoping to raise enough money to subsidize the cost of cheerleading for those who can’t afford it.   Then ALL students will have the opportunity to be part of the team without suffering financial hardships.

Cheerleading coach Melyssa Cox explains that the funding provided by Torelli Realty has been a great help in covering the cost of uniforms, participation fees in competitions, and the salary for the coaches, which aren’t totally covered by the school district.  Cox is looking forward to Snow Land because the cheerleaders will be there to be part of the fun and to sell snack food items that will help contribute to their program.

Come witness the pep of Estancia High School’s co-ed cheer squad as they support the community at Snow Land.   Go team!

  • Tis the Season – Costa Mesa’s Torelli Realty Talks Holidays

Posted Under: General Area in Costa Mesa, Entertainment & Nightlife in Costa Mesa  |  November 13, 2009 1:28 PM  |  255 views  |  No comments

Torelli Realty would like to announce this year’s Snow Land, fun-filled holiday celebration that the Costa Mesa real estate company is sponsoring at Balearic Park.  For the past 15+ years Torelli Realty has hosted the event that came to be known as Snow Hill.  In the beginning Torelli Realty brought in snow to create a children’s play area for a crowd of about 200 people.  Its success captured the attention of the City of Costa Mesa, who offered to resources to blow in 60 tons of snow on the hill in Balearic Park.  Over the past five years nearly 2000 people have enjoyed the festivities at Snow Hill, which are due to the generous contribution and vision of Torelli Realty along with the staff help provided by the City of Costa Mesa.

Sadly, due to financial constraints this year, the City of Costa Mesa will not be able to assist with staffing the event.  Undaunted, Torelli Realty plans to bring back the original snow area, which will be called Snow Land. Torelli Realty will proudly sponsor the event on Saturday, December 12 at Balearic Park from 12-3pm.

Snow Land will offer an area with snow for children to play, a cookie decorating booth, crafts, pony sweep, train rides, entertainment provided by the Estancia High Cheer Squad and of course Santa! Santa may not come by helicopter this year, but be there he will.  Food, refreshments, and popcorn will be available as well.  As always the event will be free to the Costa Mesa community and all proceeds from the food booths will go to local schools.

Even thought Torelli Realty funds the event event every year, without the help of the City of Costa Mesa, Torelli Realty does not have the necessary manpower to blanket the hill with snow but the Snow Land at the bottom will still supply enough snow for snowmen and snowballs.  Though the event will be smaller than the recent ones, Torelli Realty still wishes to encourage the spirit of the holiday season. Hopefully the city will have the finances to rejoin the holiday event in the future but for now it’s time to get out there and enjoy the meaning of the holiday season at this year’s Snow Land!

  • Costa Mesa Real Estate Rides the Wave – Surf Music

Posted Under: Entertainment & Nightlife in Costa Mesa  |  October 24, 2009 5:47 PM  |  246 views  |  No comments

Costa Mesa has a really fun history and last week’s jam session at the Costa Mesa Historical Society is living proof of that.  A group gathered to learn about the history of surf music, which has roots in Costa Mesa.  What exactly is surf music?  It came about over 50 years ago and has a distinctive percussive sound, like that of a heavy drumbeat.  The acclaimed Fender guitar created reverberation, which surfers compared to the vibration and pulsing sensations they felt while riding a wave.  Being in real estate, little known facts like this are great trivia to toss around to clients!

Veteran surf musicians Matt Quilter, Bob Caldwell and Tracy Longstreth performed and discussed surf music for a crowd of over sixty people in Costa Mesa last week.  They even invited a young audience member to play with them, in a way passing the torch lit with the passion of surf music to the next generation.

Costa Mesa has an interesting history and is fortunate enough to have the Costa Mesa Historical Society to preserve and share information about the history of our town.  Working in real estate, we often get asked a lot of questions about Costa Mesa and the surrounding towns. We’ve even got a page on our website devoted to Costa Mesa History so feel free to check that out.  And make sure to visit the Costa Mesa Historical Society when you have a chance – it’s a great way to learn about the community and spend some quality time.
