You know him. He's that special guy in your life that thinks he is savvy when it comes to home improvements. He could be your dad, your husband, your neighbor, your grandfather or God forbid, your father-in-law. On inspections, I like to refer to him as "Uncle Joe." He's the guy who has me shaking my head when I see lots of duct tape, attempted electrical connections, botched plumbing...stuff like that. I usually have an "Uncle Joe was here" citing about 3 times a week and I love to point these ahem, "repairs" out to my clients and their realtors.

Here's a doozy I saw a few weeks ago...Take a look at this photo. Can you figure out what Uncle Joe did here? Well...instead of simply replacing the exterior hose faucet handle, Uncle Joe had the bright idea to semi-permanently attach a vise grip in place of the handle! I'm sure he told the homeowners it was much better than a plain old handle like everyone else has!

Good ol' Uncle Joe! I know his heart is in the right place. I'll post more of his repair antics here and there. Home inspecting is serious work, so when I get an opportunity to chuckle, I gladly welcome it!
