The Hoffman Murphy Team loves our planet in which all of us live. We want to keep it clean and safe for generations to come, and hope you feel the same. Here are some great tips on how you can give back to our Earth this Earth Day, and every day!

Trade in your plastic bags for reusable tote bags. Plastic shopping bags are one of the top littering agents throughout our area. In California alone, 14 billion plastic shopping bags per year. Many of these bags end up in our ocean, harming sea life and more.

Donate your gently used clothing. Many organizations will accept clothing donations, which assist others in our communities. Be sure to donate your professional attire as well as casual wear – all types of clothing are always appreciated.

Start a compost pile in your backyard. Compost is made of scraps such as egg shells, pieces of fruit and vegetables, grass clippings and more. It is a wonderful nutrient you can use in your gardens and flower beds, and best of all, it’s free!

Clean up our beaches. You don’t need to have an invitation – if you find something on our beaches that shouldn’t be there, simply throw it out. You’re helping our ocean, our wildlife and more!

Be sure to bookmark this page for more information on everything happening throughout our area. If you are in need of real estate assistance, don’t hesitate to contact the Hoffman Murphy Team today! We’re ready to help!

  • The Holidays are Over – What Do We Do Now?

Posted Under: Curb Appeal in Redondo Beach, Going Green in Redondo Beach, In My Neighborhood in Redondo Beach  |  December 30, 2011 10:50 AM  |  336 views  |  No comments

The holidays are officially over for Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach and Manhattan Beach homeowners

. The presents are unwrapped, the pies are eaten, the cookies are gone, and the leftovers are in the refrigerator. Now we embrace the task of taking down the tree, putting all the decorations away, and finding places for all those great presents.

What do you do with that live Christmas tree? Recycle it! There are plenty of places offering Christmas tree recycling throughout our area, and in most cases, they’ll even pick up your tree for you.

If you live in Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach or Hermosa Beach, place your live tree out the day of your trash collection from December 26 until January 13 for free curbside pickup

If you live in Torrance, live trees may be placed at the curb

alongside your trash container from December 27 through January 12 for free curbside pickup.

Please however follow these guidelines when recycling your live Christmas tree this year.

    ·     Trees must be placed at the curb by 6:00 AM on your regular collection day (trees will not be collected on a request basis other days of the week).

    ·     Remove all tinsel and decorations, and tree stands.

    ·     The hauler cannot collect a tree longer than 6 feet.  If the tree is longer than 6 feet, the resident is responsible to cut the tree to meet the 6 foot requirement.

    ·     Flocked trees will be collected but not recycled.

Thank you for helping to make our environment a little greener, from all of us at the Hoffman Murphy Team

    ! Happy Holidays!
