” ‘Deer Creek Public Schools is days away from completing its new Seventh and Eighth Grade Center,’ said John Robertson, school board president.”, reported the Edmond Sun this week.
The article continues, “That building is going to be fabulous,” he said of the 157,000-square-foot facility. “I took a tour of it about a month ago. They were still putting some finishing touches on it, but it is really going to be a nice building. The kids and the parents are going to love it.”
The Deer Creek School District is reported to have nearly 19,000 residents. Some of these residents have formed Deer Creek Foundation, Deer Creek Now, to create a long-range plan for the Deer Creek school district. Passage of the 2009 Bond Election 39 created the funds to pay $142.1 million for the new construction.
Lennis DeRieux said, “The Performing Arts Center will be located off MacArthur between the administration building and the current middle school, which will turn into the fifth and sixth center.”
During this transformation, school activities and productions have been produced in the Alumni Hall theater. When complete, not only will the new Performing Arts Center/Athletic Facility be used for school facilities, but will also be used by the community for their workshops, concerts and conferences. The new facility will have 122, 162 square feet at a cost of $24.5 million. There will be enough room for the approximate 2,000 students for athletics, band, choir, drama and orchestra.
