  • First Annual Pickup Picnic Canned Food Drive in Port Charlotte

    The Tailgaters of Central Florida will be hosting a First Annual Pickup Picnic at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2565 Tamiami Trail, Port Charlotte, Florida on Saturday, September 13, 2014 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.   In order to enter the event, it is required that participants bring a minimum of 6 canned food items as a donation to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. 

    It is being sponsored by Above The Rim, 19800 Veterans Boulevard, Port Charlotte, Florida.  They carry new and used tires, custom wheels, and provide brake services and routine maintenance. This is the first year the event is being held.  Hot dogs will be provided but guests are asked to bring a covered dish to share and bring your own drinks, no alcohol allowed.

    If you wish to enter your vehicle in the show, you must complete the registration form.  All families and guests who enter the show for exhibition purposes will abide by the rules set forth by the church management.  It is also agreed that the management, Tailgaters of Central Florida, sponsors, co-sponsors or the owners of the grounds in which the pickup picnic itself is being held, shall not be responsible for personal injury, damage or theft of any part of parts on the entry or display.

  • Peace River Car Club cruise-in at the Shell Factory

    Florida has an abundance of cruise-ins. A newly formed cruise-in is being held at the Shell Factory and Nature Park, 2787 North Tamiami Trail, N. Ft Myers, FL once a month from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Come out and see a variety of cars and trucks on display.
    You can do some shopping at the Shell Factory retail store and visit their different museums.  They close at 6:00 p.m., so be sure to do the shopping before you walk through the cruise-in.  The web site is:  https://shellfactory.com/retail-store.php.  They have seashells, sharks teeth, souvenirs, t-shirts and even a Christmas shop, plus many more items on sale and on display.  Or you can have some dinner at Captain Fishbones.  See their menu at: https://shellfactory.com/menu.php.  What a neat place to visit with the many fish and sea life on the walls.  They also have an outside bar where you can have a beer or a fruity tropical drink.  

    The Peace River Car Club participates in this monthly event.  The club also holds monthly meetings at the Moose Lodge in Port Charlotte on the first Thursday of every month October through May.  The club is open to anyone who has an interest in or owns a car or truck of any type.

    Do you own a Corvette or have a love of Corvettes?  There is a new Corvette club in town called Harbor Corvettes.  The club was formed in April 2014.  Members are from Charlotte County, Florida and surrounding areas such as North Port. 

    The club has monthly meetings at Palm Auto Mall in Punta Gorda, FL on the last Thursday of every month starting at 6:00 p.m.  Palm Auto Mall has graciously welcomed the club and has become a major sponsor.  They provide food and drinks at meetings; provide raffle prizes, donations and much more. 

    The club members love to eat and they quite often plan monthly outings where the members meet at a specific location and caravan to a local restaurant for breakfast, lunch or dinner.  The club also plans and attends other activities such as parades, car shows, cruise-ins, museums, ball games, and boat rides. 

    The Harbor Corvettes will be holding their first Corvette and GM Car and Truck show on December 6, 2014 at the Palm Auto Mall Chevrolet-Buick-GMC Dealership on Tamiami Trail in Punta Gorda, Florida.  This is a judged show and the Harbor Corvettes cars will be on display only.  The registration fee is $20 pre-registration and $25 the day of the show.  The show runs from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Registration is from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The judging starts at 11:00 a.m. and the awards will be presented at 2:00 p.m.  Dash plaques and t-shirts will be given to the first 75 pre-registered entrants. 

    The Harbor Corvettes will also be having a silent auction, door prizes, a Chinese auction, and a 50/50 raffle at the show.  Come out and enjoy the day as a participant or a spectator.  Food and drinks will be available for sale as well as other vendors and music will be provided.

    Burnt Store Presbyterian Church and Veterans Motor Antique Car Club presents a Halloween Party on Friday, October 25, 2013 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Muscle Car City Museum parking lot, 3811 Tamiami Trail, Punta Gorda, Florida.  Bring your children for free food, beverages, candy, games, music and fun.

    This is a family event where you can enjoy a fun and safe Halloween celebration.  Come in costume and get sweet treats from nearly 100 decorated car trunks owned by church and car club members.  Enjoy the many fun activities planned for the evening. 

    Some of the supporters include Burnt Store Grille, C1 Bank, Charlotte Regional Medical Center, Dollar General, Elks of Punta Gorda, The Home Depot, Limoncello’s, McDonald’s, Mobil, Muscle Car City Museum, Phil’s 41, Walgreens and Walmart.

  • Visit Haunting on the Harbor for Halloween fun

    Are you looking for something to do for Halloween?  Smuggler’s is once again holding the Haunting on the Harbor Halloween Festival and Haunted House.  The festival runs from October 25-27, 2013 and the haunted house is open October 25-27 and October 30-31.  It is located on the corner of US 41 and US 17 in downtown Punta Gorda, Florida.

    Admission to the festival is $3.00 per person and children under 12 get in the gate free.  Tickets are being sold separately for food and attractions.  The hours are Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., Saturday noon to 11P:00 p.m., and Sunday noon to 10:00 p.m.  The haunted house encore on October 30-31 runs from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. 

    Some of the thrills and chills will be a kid’s play area and bounce house, hayrides throughout downtown Punta Gorda, carnival games and rides, pumpkin patch and scary photo booth, nightly costume contests, and live music every evening.  The haunted house is air conditioned and is 5,000 square feet of fun and horror.

  • All Corvette Show on the River

    The Corvettes of Charlotte County is excited to be hosting an all Corvette show this year. If you own a Corvette, we would like to invite you to attend. It will be held at Gilchrist Park, 400 W. Retta Esplanade, Punta Gorda, FL on Saturday, January 11, 2014. The registration form can be found on Premium Productions web site at: http://premiumcarshows.com/wppremium/

    Gilchrist Park is 11 acres along Charlotte Harbor and the Peace River which provides a beautiful setting for the show. There will be food and other vendors as well as door prizes, 50/50 raffle, silent auction and Chinese auction. The park has sidewalks for walking, jogging and biking, a basketball court, playground, tennis courts, a fishing pier, gardens, gazebo, shelters, picnic tables, a small beach and four parking lots.
