As the holidays approach, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) offers many good tips to enjoy the holidays safely with your loved ones.  Here are a few to ponder:

    1.  Trees:  If buying an artificial tree, make sure it's fire resistent.  If buying a real tree, make sure it's fresh and keep it watered.

    2.  Toys: Buying age appropriate toys prevents a lot of injuries.

    3.  Wrapping:  Remove all ribbons, bows, plastic and paper bags after the gifts are unwrapped to avoid the dangers of child suffocation.

    4.  Lights:  Check over all strands of lights - even new ones - for frayed wires, bad bulbs, etc. prior to putting them on the tree.  Turn off lights when you are not home or go to bed.  Never use lights on a metalic tree.  Make sure you are using the right lights for the job  - indoor lights should be labeled for indoor use, and outdoor lights should be labeled for outdoor use.
