The Dali Lama once said "Be kind whenever possible.  It is always possible."  Sunday, July 6th, the Dali Lama's turned 79 years old.  In celebration of his birthday, Austin's own Ten Thousand Villages shop would like to make an Austin Singing Bowl World Record Attempt 2014 and they need your help.

What: Austin Singing Bowl World Record Attempt 2014
Where: Open Air Rotunda, State Capitol Building (1300 N Congress)
    When: July 12, 2014 9am

The Austin Singing Bowl World Record Attempt 2014 is not the first time that Ten Thousand Villages has tried to break the world record for ringing the most singing bowls at one time.  Last year, they only missed it by 52 people.  This year, they want to achieve their goal of successfully breaking the record with 250 people.  A singing bowl began as a way for Tibetan monks to signal the beginning and end of meditation periods.  Today, they are used the world over for relaxation, meditation and music as well as general well being.  Anyone who wishes to join in on the world record attempt is asked to bring their own singing bowl with them.  If you don't have one, you can purchase one at Ten Thousand Villages, a fair trade retailer located right here in Austin.

Celebrate the Dali Lama's 79th birthday.  Help Ten Thousand Villages with their Austin singing bowl world record attempt 2014.  Contact Ten Thousand Villages today to sign up to attempt to break the world record.  Officials will be on hand to verify the results.

I sure hope everyone is celebrating Valentine's Day with those they love today.  While St Paddy's Day is still over a month away, you can celebrate Austin St Pittie's Day 2014 right now.  And you aren't relegated to taking just one day to enjoy THESE festivities!

    What: St Pittie's Day 2014
Where: Fado Irish Pub (214 W 4th St)
When: Daily through March 2nd 5pm to 9pm

Celebrate Austin St Pittie's Day 2014 everyday from now through Sunday, March 2nd.  Fado Irish Pub in Austin is working in conjunction with Love-a-Bull, the Austin pit bull advocacy, rescue and adoption group, to celebrate all things "pit".  Over the years, pit bulls have received a bad reputation due in large part to the unethical behavior of their handlers.  Anyone who has ever had a pit bull as part of their family knows how loyal, caring and undeniably "love-a-bull" these dogs can be.

You and your well behaved dog (breeds don't matter...we don't discriminate here) are more than welcome to come celebrate Austin St Pittie's Day 2014 at Fado Irish Pub from 5pm to 9pm any day of the week through March 2nd.  Just make sure they are on a leash.  Fado's will be offering some fantastic drink specials in honor of these four-legged, furry friends.  A portion of all proceeds will benefit the non-profit Love-a-Bull organization to continue their fight for these amazing creatures.

Grab your pooch and your friends, dress up in green and head to Fado Irish Pub to celebrate Austin St Pittie's Day 2014.  Always remember to have a designated driver when you go out drinking.  NEVER drink and drive.  We want everyone to arrive safely at their Austin home after a night that involves alcohol of any kind.
