Every March, about 1.5 million Mexican
free-tailed bats migrate to Austin and make their home under the Congress
Avenue bridge. Bat watching has become a popular tourist attraction. From March
until September, generally at dusk, you can watch masses of bats emerge. August
is one of the best months to see the bats especially when the nights are hot.
The Capitol Building
Visitor's Center: 112 East 11th Street
This incredible building opened in 1888 and to
this day remains one the great symbols of Texas history and politics. It is
also a major Austin attraction and major tourist spot. It is a favorite part of
the Austin skyline, and there are actually building restrictions to keep it
easily viewable from all parts of town.
The Governorâ€™s Mansion

Are you interested in seeing the most historic
house in Texas?Â How about the
oldest executive home west of the Mississippi River? In June of 2008, the home
was a victim of arson and has since been closed for restoration. Public tours
will resume once the rebuilding is complete, but at least you can walk or drive
by to enjoy the beauty and history.
