Cambridge, MA single family housing market is among the most expensive of the area, especially when you look at it from a price per square foot perspective. Â It costs 430.58 per square foot during Q1 of 2011.
So far, the pricing pressures around the region has not spared Cambridge's single family market. The average sale price dipped to $1,035,119 from $1,141,734 a year ago. Those figures are still way below the astonishing heights reached during 2006 when the average Q1 sale price was $1,425,812.
Sales have been hovering in the low double digit area for much of the last decade. That's way below the high figures we saw for part of the late 1990's after rent control was lifted on January 1, 1997. Please keep a couple of things in mind when looking at data going so far back. We do not know how clean the data is, how complete was the data gathering, or when the data gathering began.  MLS Property Information Network, Inc does not have Cambridge data beyond 2006 for Q1.
