The city of  Port Royal is located on Port Royal Island the largest of the Sea Islands of Beaufort County SC, between the Beaufort River and Battery Creek River.

Port Royal boosts a rich history dating back to when the first boats landed there in 1520. The city motto is “The Birthplace of American Civilization, Established 1562. Older than Our Nation- As New AS Tomorrow”!

Today Port Royal is mix of the old and new. Port Royal takes pride in its unique natural environment by restoring historic homes into a mixed use core of shops and residences in the downtown district. This area is enhanced with walking trails, community beach, boardwalks and an observation tower.

The town has two military bases, Parris Island Marine Corps Depot and Naval Hospital Beaufort.

Due to annexation the population of greater Port Royal has grown to 10678 as of 2010
